Im off to veitnam in a few weeks, hopefully check out the tour into the military zone for some waves, can you give me a head up what size kite to take?
70kg on a surfboard.
Know any good accomadation?
Cheers Drew
Are you going to Full Moon Beach - Mui Ne?
Lots of cheap places to stay in peak season for less than USD60/day. Very poor country but the strip has many hotels. Large contingent of Russians doing business there. Good, cheap food...rent a scooter and explore south of the bay.
Water is a bit dirty with plastic bags and other crap. At a few spots if the wind is cooking you have a few waves which dump straight on the beach...seen a few newbies getting rolled with their kites. Many kiting schools all along the bay.
I was there is Dec 2006 - I mainly used a 15m2 and 11m2 and a few days my 9m2. Wind usually started coming in after 11am.

Your talking about Phan Rang, the tour done with Ant at VKT. Cemeteries is also a wicked spot for surf....
Sunshine Beach Resort is a top place to stay in Mui Ne.
Have fun Vietnam Rocks I was there with the DKC in November for 2 weeks and loved it !
I was there end of December in Both Mui Ne and the Kite Surfing Tour with VKT into the Military zone
65kg - Mainly Ride Strapless Surf - I took a 6 and 10 - would recommend taking a twin tip as well as they may go to some really nice flat water spots where the waves arent that flashy.
In Phan Rang (Military zone) i was only on my 6 and was quite lit! In Mui Ne i was mainly on my 10.
Theres also another beach called malibu beach which you can go to around the corner from Mui Ne (main bay) - some 'alright' wave there with no schools - catch a taxi down there...
yep i was out in Mui Ne only a couple of weeks ago and had 9 and 12. 80kg on 132x40 twin tip. Was pretty good mix. 12 in morning and 9 in afternoon. Most of the time on the 9, but was a couple of days which i cut short as around 4pm was was overpowered on 9. Saw a local dude on a 5 (!) for the first time ;).
Full moon beach great place to stay.
what about visas, get them before you go, or can you get them when you land?
If we get them here how long does it take?
hey,
one of my chick friends who is russian manages a kite school there in vietnam. If you need the details then PM me. She is a hardcore kiteboarder and knows the best spots. She could probabley hook you up with hotties if you can kite and have manners.. She's a good wingman!
take'm all, 16m if your over 100kg which your not, so 12 and 9, from what I saw the average kite size is 11m, alot of 9's and 7's. If you cover all ranges then you won't miss out! Hedgie is spot on if you are restricted to 2 kites!
ditto, I was there two weeks ago - started on the 12 then went on the 9 every day as it came in quite strong around 25 - 30 kts..
Up to you - I wished I had bought maybe a 7 or so as it was up to 30 for 3 of the 5 days I was there.
meh. it's like everything else in life. you pay for convenience and expediency and it probably helps if you dont live close to a consulate or dont want to mail your passport... just be glad you're not trying to get a russian visa. or chinese for that matter.
SOUNDS GREAT, love to meet up with someone that knows the spots but more keen on the waves there, military zone perhaps in dec. Russian women kiteboarding sounds great too.
The smallest I run is an 8. Don't see the point in buying something for a few days. So the stupid question is.. Can I hire a kite over there? Like. A 6 or 7?
How tights security for international can I take my harness hook as check in or is it a weapon?
Thanks drew
