Race board probley best ?
thanks in advance .
Raceboard - yes
flat/small wave designed surfboard - yes
big light wind twintip - yes
but nothing's gonna save us when it goes from 25 knots to 2 knots in the space of 30mins like it has over the weekend...
I was more worried about the other (upward) gusts on sunday. It was a steady 20 knots and then gusted to 30+ a few times. Spoke to the yachties and they recorded gusts of up to 38 knots. Everyone was boosting nice but then occasionally someone would just go flying like 10 metres high. VERY FUN!
In gusty conditions, a bigger board and smaller kite is the best option. However a lightwind twintip won't have a great high end.
Race boards are probably the best solution, because they got plenty of surface area to plane through the lulls, but the big fins also help to hold down some solid power in the gusts.
Obviously it depends on your style, do you just wanna tack back and forth or do some freestyle as well?
Learn to read the gusts coming across the water. You can see the gust advancing across the water as extra ripples on the surface. Read the other kiters in the area. The gusts hit you a fraction of a second before they hit your kite, so ease the bar off in anticipation of the gust, get that back leg in a bit harder as well.
Reading the gusts is a skill that sailors use when dealing with gusty conditions. If you set yourself up before the gust hits, you won't get smashed as much by it.
thanks for your replys!
