looking at getting a surfboard suitable for strappless riding in Perth local surf slop and that will be a good lightwind option for me also.
Already have a paddle board which sucks for lightwind kiting.

I weigh 80kg.
Any ideas of what board specifics i should be after? Im guessing something shorter, wider with sharper rails and suitable rocker?! 3 or 4 fin.

Surfboards are generally poor for light wind because they have too much rocker.

I recently got an F-One Bamboo Fish 5'4" and I have found it to be excellent. Minimal rocker, very wide and quite hard rails. It is more like a skim board with fins and straps than a surfboard.

It would not be the best board in the surf. It likes long, fast carves better than snappy turns.

I have been playing around with an old dinged up 6'4'' thruster on lighter days with minimal surf, Im 93Kgs, It goes up wind well and I can move around to find that sweet spot, Its nothing mindblowing and I probably wont fork out for a new board but this option up to 6'8'' would give you something to play around with and suit to paddle in @ 80 Kgs.
Disclaimer: Usually ride 5'10'' strapped on any 22 knots++ day
Fish boards are good too and plane early, just dont give you the snappy turns

Hi Toby,

Funny you should say .... North are bringing out a board exactly as you require called the "Nugget".

I've had a ride and it's pretty big fun. Ultimate light wind and junk wave weapon. It's a quad! Should have one to play with in about 5 weeks.

Cheers,

DM

basically anything with low rocker, short and wide. Length doesn't do much for you except flap around when you are in choppy conditions
