Could someone please advise the better spots to kite around Noosa and/or Sunshine Beach during the XMas break?

What's the ideal wind direction (I'm thinking maybe SE)?

Also, are there any local need to knows (eg no go areas for kiting, self landing/launching etc) - I don't want to p1ss any of the locals off...?

Cheers

I have heard the Noosa River mouth is good but i have never kited there. Best in NE Someone will comment on this location who has more knowledge.

I have had a few good sessions at Lake Cootharaba. Follow the signs to Boreen Point from Tewantin. Works in SE/NE. Launching can be tricky due to the large trees on shoreline and very small beach. I found that because of this wall of trees, it gets a bit gusty in close. Not sure if it is the first spot to pick from if the winds are right

As well as the river mouth, try Lake Weyba. It works in an easterly.

Wind is predominantly a NE which is perfect for the Noosa River mouth on a low tide. Rigging area can be a problem as the beach in the mouth has been severely eroded and there is a 'no rig and no fly' zone on main beach. Expect a crowd in any event.

Lake Weyba is good but fluky. If you are up to it, a downwinder on the open beaches between Sunrise to Castaways to Peregian to Coolum is great and you will invariably run into another crew on the way down. Check the bus timetable for your return journey.

Can I suggest you contact George or Fiona from Adventure Sports, the local kite shop to check the conditions before you get here. Phone 5455 6677 from memory.
