leashes are gay ??
I mean,
they are both stupid board-leashes, hey ?
they do the same function, right ?
I don't get it ?
lol.
Reel leash, 1 vote for definatly gay ![]()
I would rather see some blood gushing from someones head after there leggie slingshots there supper heavy kite surf board at them flat out. lol...
Get rid of the leashes, and straps and just get out there and smash it!![]()
why do some folk on this forum use "gay" and "stupid" interchangeably?
reel leashes are stupid, but how are they gay? whether you're on a float down oxford st or you're a total homophobe there seems little reason to connect leashes with gayness. studded collars maybe, and these may have leashes attached, but that's not what we're talking about.
bronski beat and the blue oyster bar and man-waxing are gay.
reel leashes are stupid.
surfboard leashes may be stupid in a lot of contexts though there's some dispute.
using "gay" as an all-purpose denigration is definitely stupid.
many things are gay and stupid, but not all that is gay is stupid, and not all that is stupid is gay.
having other ways of criticising objects and people will make you seem less stupid.
I saw the male ends of two leashes touching the other day which was totally gay. but the female ends where touching too which was totally hot..
I think homophobs call things gay as they feel the need to try convince others that they aren't gay.
I think guys say lesbians are hot 'cause they don't really get the concept.
I think slave is.. hmmm... always on about the same crap.
yeah, it happens maybe once in every 25 gybes. but its not hard to simply lift one foot slightly and kick the leggie back out straight.
the worst thing with them is taking a spill and having the legrope wrap around the kite lines. but i still prefer the odd tangle to body dragging around in the impact zone trying to find a white board in the foam.
Ok, Slave...you stirren again.
This whole argument ain't about you.
It is about the risk to others.
A leggie and a leash are used in crowded Metro spots so people don't get injured from the activities of others.
End story have a nice weekend.......next from coming, so I imagine you'll be grumpy for another week or so.
Stamp,
When you're riding strapless with a leggie...
Does the leggie get in the way and under your foot sometimes especially when changing feet while gybing ?
Just curious.
Try below the knee rather then around the ankle.
Big breath.. I totally agree with slave (and djojo) and many of you children need let go of the primary play ground mentality and GTFU. Cut down on the red cordial too.![]()
All leashes between rider and board are bad news but many are too busy spaffing over there kite hero's latest DVD to even contemplate this, yet would lay the slippers into anyone who uses a real leash or whatever. Totally hypocritical.![]()
Attempting to create hiarachys with strapless at the top, strapped far behind and (I am wildly assuming here) twinnies scraping the barrel exposes desperate and feeble individuals who needs to classify/rate themeselves against others to compensate for lack of personality/social skills/length or girth.![]()
Leave the smal mindedness (and everything else small) behind and get out there enjoying the best sport around even if your on a Maccas tray.![]()
Slave you are stiring though mate. ![]()
Homosexuals took the word "gay" and made it their own... Now the word has progressed to another meaning again, get over it. Lots of words have more than one meaning.
leashes in general are dangerous. However body dragging around the impact zone on a big day is even more dangerous IMO. You have to do a risk assesment of the individual circumstances on the day.
Stamp - I'm not having a go but under the conditions you have described I would choose a reel over a static leash anyday. Simply put the reel has more length if an unforseen loft etc happens. Lets face it we all think we have the conditions dialled at times and along comes a large dollop of p00 hitting the fan.![]()
Your point does make sense but no-one gets tyo chose ideal conditions/kite size every time.
Reels have inherent dangers also with retraction and (rare) cutting of the flesh on the edge of the material. Static leashes barely keep the board (surfboards are obviously a lot longer than most twinnies too) the length of the board itself away. Surfboards also have many pointy bits compared to twinnies. It all adds up to potential for danger.
Many reel users add a safety factor by using a cable tie or similar as a strain break point if they get anything like a true loft - rather than just retreiving the board. I'm not aware of any options like this with a leggy?
That is the key word here too is potential not a gaurantee. As other have put better than I: Weigh up the situation/conditions, choose your personal risk factor and go with the plan you think is appropriate.
An isolated break with big kahunas is differant but I just find it ludicrous that many here bag the sheeite outta reel users then are ok with whacking on a leggy and going into crowded surf spots. Must be hard to see what's going on with your hero worshipping head up ya freckle I guess.![]()
For those that came late: I used to vehemently defend the use of a reel leash and unlike many who sheepy fashion bag there use I have experience with them. I used it for approx 2 1/2 seasons (yep way too long) and had very little drama with it BUT I wouldn't use one now and don't recomend them.
BTW - has anyone ever noticed how guys who use the term gay a lot tend to hang around crowds of blokey blokes more than enjoy women's company?![]()

Hmmm.. must be a big closet to fit you all in. ![]()
Obviously I'm retarded, I just don't understand the topic's title full stop.
