I don't really get the windsurfer/kitesurfer hate each other thing-it's schoolboy mentality in a man's (woman's) world...who gives a fugg-ride what turns you on.
Hmm, poley bashing is pretty much a lowest common denominator pursuit.
Laird Hamilton, Raphael Salles, Robby Naish, Pete Cabrinha and I believe even Lou Wainman were among the pioneers and developers of kiting who came from windsurfing.
Sure, windsurfing in light winds or even strong winds in 1979 was pretty unspectacular, but I assure you from first hand experience that watching Laird Hamilton struggle just to get the kite to pull him downwind on a surfboard from Sprecks to Kanaha in 1996 didn't seem like it would go too far either.
This is not to excuse the abysmal windsurfing song, which is truly horrendous, it's just to say that the sport evolved and continues to, just like kiting.
Please, let's put the inter-wind-powered-sport bickering behind us and get back to the worthy task of hating jetskis.
Pointless thread o' the week?
This thread is just another invitation for trolls to climb outta the slime and cr@p on with the usual us vs them rubbish. Having said that most of the comments so far make sense.. but give it time.
trip trap trip
Yer just watch 1 min of awsome video
Note to one self : do not kite near poleys jumping (they are dangerous)
Half of the big air jumps they abanon ship (must get too high) like .40 and .52
and the bloody thing comes flying down i think i would rather be hit by a truck i think it would cause less damage
Anyhow not bad too watch from a safe distance.
Come on - That back loop video is amazing... At least we can float down - those guys land so hard... Even a 2 foot chop-hop slaps hard when you're windsurfing...
60 foot jumps take balls - no matter whether you're holding a bar or a boom...
Thats awesome footage of Windsurfing , nice find Charl . I reckon your right about half the
s on this forum too.
Check out the original Naish video if you want to see massive air on a windsurfer. Robbie out at lanes in big surf on a raceboard going huge...
I agree that those windsurfers are probably going higher than at least 80% of the people have been on here kiting though.
i didnt even look for it i found it on kook forum so i guess its not even that great by windsurf standards?
dave dont pigeon hole me into that wakestyle stereotype, if you knew me you'd know i actually ride surfboards 90% of the time ![]()
yea windsurfing jumps take a fair bit of courage and skill but these guy's are the best I don't see the average windsurfer even juming half that hight compared to the average kiteboarder getting around that hieght.
When I windsurfed Wanda in the 80's there was one day I'll never forget.
Six foot sets in a 25 knot southerly. I was coming in, lining up a wave to ride and a guy I knew was going out. I could see our paths would cross so I slowed up wind to let him pass. A big swell went under me and he lined it up for a jump. Next second he was above me, just over my mast. He looked down and smiled, then went into a forward roll straight over the top of me, land on the other side and casually sailed away. Cool.
Just to clear a few things up,, this thread is not about paying out polys but more about the tragic video clip that im sure they all wished never happened.
umm 5m? where the hell are u riding? im lucky around perth to see people clearing 2 or 3m... wait how high do you think you jump yourself then? like 20m?
^^^^^^
Hey guys Chill for a minute.
FIRST: we have a port starboard incident collision ....the kiter was on port and not on a wave....The poley was on Starboard.....work it out.
SECOND: we have a really gay euro video that poleys had nothing to do with...poor bastards.
THIRD: those few poleys that actually landed their backrolls were AWESOME riders with huge balls but far above the average poley that mows the grass and becomes a speed hump that just gets in the way. Total respect for awesome windsurfing dudes. Big yawn for the average dude.( I was a poley for 18 yrs before 10 yrs in kiting so yes I can say that)!!
FORTH: Depending on where you kite, the same can be said for kiting. We all know there are lawns being mowed every day....its gay but it happens, just depends where you ride, some spots rock, some suck.
I'm no Rueben Len10, but ours is the fastest growing sport, theirs is the fastest dying sport (because of us-ex poleys) so there's no point to prove here..the market has already done that!!
Although kiting rocks and always will, you've still gotta respect the handful of hard-core poleys that make you look back in awe and think "F**K that was a friggin cool move."
Windsurfing as a sport still has great potential, but just a lack of numbers and therefore growth, to develop it at the rate we are used to as kiters.
Cut'em some slack lads, our guy was on port.
DAMMITTT !!!!!!!!! AAARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!
Now I've posted TWICE this year!!!!! Three times now...ahhhhh ....I'm a NEEEEErrRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDD...AHHH!!!
