i have surfed at Wiatpinga beach plenty of times over the years but have never seen kiters in the water there. Has anyone been kiting there and what was it like. Plenty of wide beach to launch and a variety of wave types...has to be good.
I reckon kiting Waits would be pretty hard core, same with Parsons....if you do have a crack, do it with a few mates & defiantly not on your own. Not a good spot to have a bad day...but on the same token, could be Epic.
Rode Waits today in 15 to 18 ESE to SE and around 2-3 with occasional bigger one. It is a bit of a tricky place to kite. As you would know Waits is shifty at the best of times, so finding a consistant bank that worked was hard. With the wind on it you get a bit of a cross shore lump in it and there was a lot of torbulent sections along the beach which chopped the hell out of the wave. Saying that i did find a few sweet waves that walled up nicely. Had a good session but it won't become my usual spot to ride down south as there are better options, but I'm sure i will ride it again.
Note, this beach is for experienced riders only, lots of rips, heavy gear destroying wave and tricky to read. It also has a reputation for visits from rather large Mr Chompy's, so you don't want to be way out the back messing around with relaunching kites or retrieving your board.
Cheers Croc :-)
