I am heading over to wales in july for some family stuff, heard that there alot of kiting done around llandudno?
has anyone kited there? is it warm or will i freeze my nuts off.
As i am taking the wife and the kids, there is no room for my gear..![]()
Is there anyone that i can hire gear off over there??
Mark (hubby has stolen her profile)
Try Rhosneigor on the Isle of Anglesy in anything from SE to NE. Good waves from the Irish sea and a decent beach to launch from. You probably wouldn't want to stay there but there is accommodation at the pub and plenty of B&Bs if you have to.
Hells Mouth is another good wave spot if the winds up.
It will be cold even in the middle of summer so take a full winter suit.
thanks heaps board 9898.
will go over and check out anglesea.
Not to sure bout the full steamer idea. haven't worn one in years.v still in boardies.
have email turbelence kiting in wales but no reply.
I don't think there is anywhere in the UK that hires out gear. Its just not worth a shop's while to do it. The beaches of SW Wales are spectacular. It's just a shame that the weather isn't slightly warmer.
Kiting in the UK can be a trifle inconsistent. You don't get a summer seabreeze anywhere, except for the Venturi effect due to the Isle of Wight down near Portsmouth/Hayling Island.
I would save yourself the hassle and worry and just enjoy Wales for what it is mate.
hey there lostinlondon,
Finally get to have a month off work, was hoping for a kite, looks like no such luck.![]()
Thanks for the reply, best to know what is installed before you go and get all your hopes up![]()
scubasim,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news mate - if you have a month there, and you can, I would be getting a cheap flight to Spain for a week - package deal styley.
Not being able to take your gear is going to be a big hinderance though ![]()
These guys used to hire out kit:
www.edgewatersports.com/
Not sure whether they do any more...
Otherwise you could Google one of the University Kitesurf clubs in Wales. Students are normally more than willing to share/hire kit to fund their beer habit.
A trip to Wales isn't complete without a visit to the Gower.
I grew up there and still miss the place 20 years later!
The peninsula is visually spectacular, the beaches beautiful and clean the water chilly
Summer means a 2/3mm steamer and on some sunny days you could prob. get away with a shortie, Def. no Boardies n rashie
There are great waves all over the gower, from simple beachies to hardcore spitting twisting barreling reef breaks.
This guy can help you with everything surf in Gower from where the breaks are to gear to whatever. He is one of the original surfers from the area.

Heres a few piccies to wet your appetite
Wow - big topic - before U go do the emails/forums - reckon you can line-up kit.
Wettie - tick especially once you are used to Qld.
Sea breezes - if the prevailing is SW and the sun is out - they were very common but we only noticed them when they blocked northerlies NE'lies - I used to hang-glide on the Gower at Rhossilli and up the valleys (beautiful).
Tides - just look at the shore line and the size of harbour walls / boat ramps 4-5 metres is common especially along any channel areas - so currents can be vicious - but if you are not into waves opens up alot of flat water at the right tide.
Suggest investigate if visitor membership is available thru' BKSA; 4 insurance.
If you can, get any certificates to prove competance - might help re-hire without watching you - but their demo season will be in full swing (assume they do the same as over here??).
UK kitesurfing forums - local info' will make or break this as a kiting holiday
The UK kite mag's (Kitesurf and Kiteworld - www.kiteworldmag.com/directory/uk) have UK school & shop directories in them - Turbulence Extreme sport at Llandudno - www.ukkiting.com looks like the closest (school & shop).
In a month I am sure you could sneak a few days in- rumour has it there are a number of piers waiting to be jumped still![]()
My big lament was kiting wasn't invented when I was in UK - Poole Harbour would be magic for flat water - used to row eight's around there and if you stretched those over a wave they snapped!!
Wind - heard this is ok - www.bigsalty.co.uk/weather-alerts.php
Suggestion about week out on a package(LOSTINLONDON) would be fun - Say at Tenerife (Canary Islands)or one of the mid-atlantic islands - I think TSC (The Shinn Centre at El Medano) a kite test centre - is still there - would be a ball.
Have a grand trip![]()
