hi any tips for doing my backroll i dont seem to take off and i underotate i tried already looking over the shoulder any tips?
keep good speed but in control, move the kite high before you start the backroll and keep it in that position until you land, you dont need to send it like in a normal jump., helps if you look for a bit of chop or small wave to jump from, remember to pull thye bar in as youy jump from the water for that little extra boost...good luck
To add, try to really throw your head back, then lift your legs as well. The rotation will follow the head. As you come around, really pull hard on your front hand this will also help you whip around more.
I really struggled to understand what I needed to do to make it happen. I also tried looking over shoulder etc, but it just didn't come together.
It took me years to get my head around it.
While all of the above statements are correct, it wasn't enough for me.
It finally came together when I understood the path my feet needed to take through the air. I envisaged how my board would have to start on a smooth curve that would continue around my body until it landed. Doing it off a small piece of chop is definitely the way to go.
After that long trying and failing, when I finally nailed it I went a little crazy with it - getting dizzy from doing too many
Yeah it's a funny move, people kept saying how easy it is, first real trick etc etc but for some reason I kept looping the kite (obviously pulling hard on the backhand).
I'd land half of them with a kite loop which was awesome.....BUT the other half were downright scary, nasty and humbling!!

One way to think of it: The back roll rotation action starts from carving your board through the water towards the wind, and the rotation motion just continues as you get pulled into the air by the kite.
I also had some trouble (and hard crashes) when learning back rolls because I was sending the kite back too far past 12 o'clock. I fixed this by just pulling some pressure on my 'front' hand about half way through the roll, which positioned the kite nicely for the landing.
yea the head throwing back behind you is 1 way to describe it..... for me personally i found u have to keep the lines tight to do that.. do it loose and u sink and burn.. it will come with experience and for every one its different.. its a learning curve that u have to go thru.. just try it as much as u can in a session and it will happen faster
As with a lot of tricks you have to commit. Take the punishment a few times, then it will work and you will wonder what all the fuss was about. Commit to the move and dont think too much about the technical aspects, these will work themselves out.

Completing it without moving the kite at all, using pop to get the air.
After I had that dialled, then I tried moving the kite to 12 and rotating under it.
Personally I prefer the first method, its a bit more of a powered move, now i generally only move the kite higher if doing doubles or trying backroll transitions (which im still yet to master).

for a start i am a freestyle lepper!!! so my advice is from a leppers point of veiw.
I do backrolls every now and then.
they are super easy off a little wave lip. just keep carving lean back and around you go.
but yes i did my fair share of upside down backwards kiteloops on to the head trick.
I found if i concentrated on the pulling the FRONT hand 3/4 the way round that was about right.
my main problem was throwing it too hard and doing too many rotations. thruth be told thats still a problem.
A back loop 360 transition feels nice when i pull one off. most of the time i stuff it up. I could do with some advice on how to do that trick.
Yep, my goal for this holiday at Sanur, Bali, was learning backroll, up loop and down loop.
Did all in two weeks. Super easy.
For me, bending knees hard after lift is a go! Get your legs in the air by throwing your shoulders back.
For transition I think, learn to do with one hand only.
i didn't take time to read all the posts so sorry in advance if i repeat anything.
but in my time of instructing and watching people try learn their first rotations I have noticed the most common issue is people just cut upwind, scoop and hope for the best with the rotation. They don't actually generate the pop and get in the air before they spin. this leads to getting no height.
break it down into steps, pause a bit before you rotate.. so go into the trick like you would for just a normal jump, load up, send your kite and pop, once you leave the water look over your back shoulder to get the rotation going. spot your landing and bring your kite down for the landing.
doing it this way your first few will be a bit of a horizontal spin and more like a bit of a 360 than a flip. but as you get used to this movement you can throw your head in different variations, looking up towards the sky as you throw your head and shoulders around for example will get you more inverted. but start with the basic for now and see how you go.
