I have found 2 kites and trying to decide what ome to go for the cabrinha switchblade ids 11sqm is a 2009 $400 and the slingshot fuel 11sqm is 2012 for $500 I also have a flysurfer warrior 7.0. I am also new to this. What should I do I weigh around 8
78kg and 157cm tall
Leave the fuel until a bit later on as its a more advanced kite, "c" kites tend to be a little cheaper as a lot if them have a hard life and you never know unless you know the rider.
Switchblade is the better choice, should be riding around 15-25 at your weight.
So you think the cabrinha is a better choice? I used to do a lot of land flying as well with a 6m foil. I forgot to mention that the fuel is also (apparently) it has only one month of use.
the cabrinha does not come with a pump either.
thanks guys for the input.
I love my switchblade (2010) and cannot praise this kite enough for its easy, predictable character. Also know its not going to hold me back as I progress.
I think 2009 was the year before Cabrinha introduced the plastic sleeve through the centre of the bar though so not sure how much wear & tear the centre lines get on this model.
My advice would be to inspect carefully before you buy a used kite, even un wrap the lines and check the bar etc ........ lots of posts &advice about buying 2nd hand here and on Peter's Kiteboarding Handbook.
I learnt on 2003 c-kites and the difference is huge although all kites have come a long way in the last 10 years.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the advice you guys have been awesome :) I have also learnt to fly foil kites form when i was a kid and to the end i was flying a 6m that was fun. and I have always wanted to try kite surfing but never had any money too but now i have my old flysurfer warrior 7.0 it flies true and the safety works really well. but I would like a LEI
Thanks heaps for the advice
You need a bigger c kite to get the same grunt as a delta.
SB get stuck in trees but are better to learn how to obtain a great poo stance with.
The fuel is for kool kids and hasn't changed in years because it hasn't needed to. Raily to blind side will come naturally with this kite.
Personally I'd go the SB. I already have the 2009 11m SB and I love it.
Is there any where to check to make sure it is what year they say it is?
I have been surfing the web trying to find out good reviews but its hard to come by a good review.
and with the cabrinha i think it might be a crossbow
they person selling this says its a switchblade but i noticed it says crossbow on the bag. so if its a cross bow what are your thoughts on that kite?
thanks heaps
these are the pictures he has of the kite for sale
The picture is a Switchy, the bag is clearly a crossbow. Crossbow would be no good for you, Switchy is perfect, not sure why you can't find a decent review, they would have to be one of the best selling kites of all time.....
I would avoid the whole deal mate, the picture of the kite flying is a switchy, sounds like someone has stolen it that knows nothing about kiting, or is trying to rip you off....
Thanks heaps mate :)
ill stick with my flysurfer warrior until i get better then i will just go out and get a new baby.
Sounds like a good plan Josh
I would really hesitate to buy any 2nd hand kite I have not inspected myself or got someone in the know to inspect for me. I am sure if you can't afford new, a local shop will inspect a potential purchase on your behalf for a small fee. The aim of the game for everyone is Safety First and having fun.
BTW, all Cabrinha kites (maybe all kites, not sure) have a label on the inside which has the model, year and unique serial number on it. You could always ask for a picture of this label. Most manufacturers will start selling their next year model in the latter part of the previous year, therefore a kite manufactured anytime after about September 2009 is, most of the time, a 2010 year model.
Hope this helps
Thanks heaps I was thinking of getting another just because the warrior does not have a lot of depower but I know safty system works a treat so it I find my self in a pickle I can save myself. Is there a way to mod it or something to get more depower coz there is still a fair amount of pull when the bar is far forward
Not sure how old your warrior is Josh but kite manufacturers/designers really started getting the full de power right in about 2008. Before this time I reckon 25% depowered on the bar would have been about all you could get (I think) but since then, most inflatable LE kites easily get 90% depowered just by pushing the bar all the way out.
she is a 2002 :P its great to fly just have to be more aware of the kite and where it is thanks tho. my shoulder is all fine now and cant wait to get back out in the water and get up and going
