Sup ppls
I have a 2009 crossbow 11m and i want to get a smaller kite for the windy days.
i need to be able to fly from 12-30knts about. the 11 is perfect for me from 12-22 or so, after that it becomes uncomfortable to ride, i weigh just over 80kg
i want to stick with the crossbows as they are perfect for the very gusty conditions here, their depower and the fact that i dont unhook. i want to get a 2010 because i wont use it as much as the 11 and then maybe upgrade the 11 to a 2011 model next year.
I would have liked to get a 8 but they dont make one so now im looking at the 7 or 9...do they both fly ok? most guys seem to love the 9 but that might be too close to the 11?, when will i be able to get going on them? and will i be able to fly the 9 in 30knts? is the 7 skittish? iv never flown anything smaller than a 8 :/
thanks for any replies ![]()
The 9 might seem a bit close but for the wind range you are talking about it would be the best bang for your buck if you don't want to kite over 30kts as it will easily handle conditions over 22kts that your 11 cant handle and easily handle 30kts.
But if you want to go out when it is a lot windier than 30 than the 7m might be ok.
Yep, I weigh the same as you and use to have a crossbow 11/9 combo.
There is enough gap between the two.
My 9 is fantastic I love it :)
I was out on my 9 with a surfboard when people were on 5's or 7's lol.. It can handle alot honestly. Although my method to spill off overpower is just go harder upwind now ![]()
I just don't know if I want to go smaller or larger for my next one. I have had overpowered days and underpowered days so ![]()
11 and 9 combo sounds fine. Don't be fooled by people who take out big kites in strong conditions and say they can handle anything on their 12m. It's all about having control. You'll go faster, boost bigger and have more fun on the right size kite. Too often I see guys crawling along with kites at 12 o'clock because it's too windy for them to get it down to a useful height. If you have to depower a kite to the max it won't fly efficiently and be slow to respond.
