I've been approached buy a promotions company and there keen to use a kite event as a launch for a new product there not keen on the free style side more a social event thats not winner orientated and i thought maybe a big down winda not to huge maybe aspendale to st kilda this way its close to shore for all to see and spectators can follow the event right through its just an idea at the moment but ideas would be awesome.
forgot to mention where thinkin january because its school holidays.
Id be up for that, would need to organise a bus to take us all that far though, (two far to drive it twice). Drinks and eats halfway for sure.... and loads of the new product ![]()
Is it condoms they are promoting ?
I can just see it now
Can you keep it up and go the distance ![]()
Or
Keep it inflated and enjoy the ride ![]()

Sorry hookworm, but craig66 just sent me an email and I had something on my mind![]()
But seriously if they put a bbq on at the end and have a bus on hand I am sure you would have a good turnout.
not sure of the specifics of the product but it will be either something you eat or wear like deodorant, but they do want this to be a mixed event, so not just the local kids who can do some spins and tricks, but they want all ages boy's and girls. there will be media, and a bbq and drinks will def be on the cards at the finish as for a bus or transport i think it could be arranged, the main thing is numbers and the more people we can get the better, someone has already suggested that we have a SUP division and maybe a pole board division which all could def be on the cards, the main thing is to get as many as possible.
awsome idea would def be up for that. im sure would get a good turnout bbq and a bus would help a lot otherwise mum will have to drive me![]()
may be required to organize some sort of safety crew in the water (safety boats) if your organising an event/promo like this?? not sure..?? depends how big i guess
yep, bring it on. a bus and security for gear left at either end, or some arrangement to bring people's pumps and bags back to stkilda or whatever the end point is would be great.
a non-competitive social downwind cruise with lots of kiters would be an excellent and spectacular way to spend an arvo, and with a bbq and a beer at the end, even better.
safety is always number one and support will be the first thing on the agenda. a number of boats have already shown there support along with a number of boats for media.
the main focus on this event will be a display of green enviromentally friendly meens of water transport support boats aside of course so there may even be a small sail boat class maybe depending on weather and turn out but the main thing is to get as many as possiable involved.
Hey Hook, would be a spectacle to say the least, don't think I would like to paddle a SUP from Aspendale to St Kilda....
Just a heads up, if it is some sought of 'official' event the participants would need to have some form of third party insurance so KBV membership would be required, good way to boost membership....
Tracking of all participants for this type of event is paramount, a long time ago in another life there was a pole board event event that used to run from Parkdale down to Frankston, one year the wind died off so a few people sailed to the nearest beach and went home. The organizers, life saving clubs and coast guard spent hours looking for 'missing' sailors and were really pissed off the organizers....
Sounds great Hookwork.
What sort of numbers is the sponsor actually looking for? 20? 40? 100? I can only imagine that the amount of planning will grow exponentially as the numbers increase.
I'd suggest speaking with Chris (or the events coordinator) from Kite Republic as their club ride days get a nice cross section of ages with plenty of enthusiastic female kiters as well as all the usual blokes.
Yep, BBQ, transport, buddy system on the day for safety.
Registration so you can track numbers (again safety), which would also double as a way to keep track of the BBQ. Ie. Register and pick up a BBQ token.
Can make a great day of it.
I could possible save up some brownie points for a few days away, would love to meet some fellow Victorian Kiters.
(this is in melbourne right? kinda new to this state.)
Where can i keep myself posted, here or will you start a new thread in the hook-up or victoria forum?
We had a brief meeting a few day's ago and its funny the wind surfing event that was held a few years back was brought up and a way were hoping to avoid the problems they had is through the registering and a chec point system with marshalls following the event and a protocol system. Which means if you register and dont make it and fail to let organisers know you could be held responsible for search efforts. Another thing is all participants must also have aksa insurance or part of a club. there will be a major meeting of organisers and participents so that everyone is briefed and knows the format. Nothing is set in stone yet and i'll keep everyone updated as things progress but so far looks like there is alot of interest and hopefully it goes ahead. Also a major charity has shown interest in the event and looks like it could have some serious media coverage.
