thinking of heading to exmouth for a week in august, fly/drive thing.
Is this good time for wind/whats best time ?
Whats the go with luggage allowace etc never had to travel with boards/kites ?
Hows about a dedicated holidays page, deals, shops, spots etc
I have been trying to plan a trip up there for my partner and I in September for a couple of weeks now. I love Australia...especially WA but I have come to the conclusion that travelling in our country is sadly a huge rip off.
We are staying 2 nights in Coral Bay, hopefully 1 night in the Yardie Creek homestead (if I can ever get in touch with them), then 2 nights in Exmouth.
Not sure what Coral Bay is like for kiting but 2 days there to keep other half happy doing touristy stuff. Then spend 2 days at sandy bay then next 2 days kiting around other beaches near Exmouth.
Was advised that we don’t need a 4wd so got the cheapest car I could. Would have loved to drive up there but only had a short time and didn’t want to be rushed.
for 2 of us at $3.5k each its a little $$.
I have never had an issue with luggage allowances on planes. If you pack all your kite gear + 20kg of clothes then you may have an issue.
2xkites, 1xboard, 1x harness,2x pump, 2x boardies,2x shirts 1x spares kit = about 19-21kg in my golf bag. That and the clothes I wear onto the plane will last me a week.
I went through Europcar. $330 I think for 5 days 750km. it’s a 4 door Hyundai I30 I think…thought I needed a bit more than a tiny Getz
thanks all
jsk try allens car hire, they rent ****ty old cars and the like for cheap, if its not late, have fun its amazing up there
been quoted 480 return to fly, cheap i think, just sounds like i am a bit early, out of season
wont be goin if no windy
really dying, dreaming of kiting, hate winter man
August in Exmouth offers predominant SE winds with a hint of SW some days.
Most kiting on a SE is in front if our Exy Yacht Club (town side) and the SW on the West side (Ningaloo side).
If you plan to stay @ Yardie Homestead C/van park at least you can hit the beach for a kite as soon as the SE swings to a SW. Sandy Bay in Cape Range N.P is the perfect kiting destination...
No wind = Snorkelling and fishing...
Regular sea breezes are from Sept/Oct through until March.
You should be able to get cheaper flights with Skywest. I booked one the other day for $150 one way. Will give you more beer money!
Check their web site for info on excess luggage, as they are pretty strict.
We hire Camper Vans and Camper Trailers in Exmouth. This could be another alternative to go self sufficient camp out in Cape Range right next to Sandy Bay. www.exmouthcamperhire.com.au
Scott and I also own the Kite Shop in town, Ningaloo Kite & Board and sponsor the Exmouth expo, Demo Week. The event dates for 2010 are 3/10 - 8/10. Sooo many options!
We got a wicked van, bout $65 a day then you can camp out right next to the beaches, in fact over 2 weeks we only paid to stay 2 nights at coral bay for the showers, and to refill water, etc. Rest of the coast you can find somewhere free to park the van up. At Exmouth start the day with sunrise snorkelling at oyster stacks (mind blowing) then kite the arvo.
Plus we got one day free van hire for turning up to pick it up naked. Lots of surprised backpacker girls in the office ![]()
At about $5 per person per night, paying to camp in the Cape Range National Park isn't an expensive option.
Dusta i cant comment until i've experienced both locales ![]()
Heard from Kite buddy currently at Le Morne Mauritius with kitethrills who is having a great time ![]()
Next year!!
