Hi all.
As the avator sugests, I am optically challenged without my glasses. (Sadly getting worse each season).
THe optician suggested disposble contacts which is a possibility but I'm hoping to kite heaps this season and I'd rather put the money into some corrective lens fitted sunnies. I have could get by with a set of 'off the shelf' corrective lenses that will be good enough.
Does anyone know of or have experience with a manufacturer who does shatterproof sunglasses in corrective lenses??

my wife needs coke bottle glasses and tried many times with the contacts and it ended the same all the time, loosing one or both. Then she got her script, went to the local Seaspec dealer and asked if Seaspec could do a custom pair of sunnies. A while later she got them and loves 'em. You wouldn't use them for reading but now she has hassle free kiting, best thing she ever did. Plus with the strap on the back, they never come off (well, not yet anyway).
Her script was fairly bad and they managed so I'd ask your local dealer to make enquiries.

I saw an ad for these in the Qantas inflight magazine but dont know if they are any good. Ad showed a guy wakeboarding. they had a goggle design and a sunglass with strap design (aka Seaspecs and Oakley Waterjackets)

Used contacts for years and never lost one yet, single use disposables come in at less than a dollar a day...losing prescription sunglasses will cost a fortune and the amount of sunglasses l have lost...to many :(
Put a bit of rope on them just long enough to slip your arm threw and you will never lose them if you make it too long it will get caught on other things . I done this after i lost a pair of scrips . Now i havnt lost a pair in 4 years and after a lot of hard smacks (no not from my mum neither)
and they cost a lot more.
Thanks to all for the replies and the links. The seaspec gives you a pair of prescription sunnies for about $210 AU according to their website. Apart from contacts this looks like the best option to get me focused (literally) and have glare protection.
THe oaklies are closer to $350 and not prescription.
Depending on availabilty of funds I might be using disposables yet.....
i sell click magnetic polaroids with bifocal lenses for water sports. the only other way is laser.
I've bean wearing disposable contacts kitesurfing for a while now, no problems but don't like putting them in and out. Have been looking for prescription sunnies that "wrap" around your face and there is not much available or opticians will tell you that it's not ideal.
Finally went for prescription oakleys that are not cheap (polarized around $500)
Your local optometrist can order them made to you prescription in the USA
It takes a bit to get used to as there is a bit of distortion in objects moving from the center of the lens to the side (as the optician warned before) but that doesn't worry me.
Best thing I bought in a while and highly recommended!
But you will loose them kiting so for kiting it's back to contacts and some el cheapo sunnies for me
I have been searching for some wrap around prescription sunnies for about 2 seasons now.
Seaspecs couldnt get my script right, lenses were terrible. Barz Optics looked the good and placed and order but then was told they couldnt do it as the lenses would stick out to far from the frames and were likely to fall out.
A good Optometrist would likely get a good lens in the sea specs but @ 360 per lens it was not an feasible option
There are some great triathlon sunnies out there, but for $900+ they are again not an option.
Latest attempt is with fuglies prescription sunnies. Ordered some today so will see what happens. For $200 as long as I can see and they last 6 months + I will be happy.
