I was just wondering where the ideal place to put foot straps on a uni directional 6 foot 2 inch board, is there a standard formula. i have heard put the back stap as far back as practicle and then place the front strap the width of your shoulders forward of the back.
any ideas would be much appreciated

cheers

I put straps on a cheap old NPS epoxy board years ago. The centre of the forward strap was placed at the midpoint between the nose and tail, the back screw of the rear strap was placed as close to the front of the rear fin as possible. I also put some fcs fins in it and it worked great.

have one strap as far back as you can to get maximum control over your fins, front is where it feels comfortable, ignore all stapless saints on here, never saw anybody strapless on sunday or was is too knarly for you in the morning?!? [}:)]

My experience is to the contrary of the advice you have received.

I had two surfboards set up with foot straps when I first started to ride them. I figured to put them where my feet go when I surf, seemed logical.

In practice, they were too far back and the board wouldn't plane.

I had to have another set put in forward of where those were, and it worked fine.

My simple equation is 4 inches forward of your surfing stance, front and rear.

Using plugs like the 5 hole ones on this web page (R65-5336, scroll down) give some adjustment.

I had them put in, just marked the spots. If you are confident enough with resin to do it, don't cut the stringer, put them either side.

Re the straped - non strapped nonsense that goes on, deep down, who but insecure people would care?
