...started asking what sort of kite would be a good one for her last night.
is this the path to endless summers and shared salty joy, or will it be the loss of that greatest realm of personal freedom!??!?
at least now our (my!) quiver will expand, and i dont need to negotiate the finances for it!
...and she will be able to give up the gym yet have a great stomach and tight buns. im sold! ![]()
Got a mate thats a keen surfer, hooked up with a surfer girl and was the envy of all.
Fast forward a few years and a couple of tin lids and now he has to share water time/ daddy daycare so the misses gets her waves too, while the rest of us do our day care when the weather suits- proceed with caution.
Not to mention the girlfriend is there to help launch and land kites and also provide you with a cold beer when you have finished. If you even train her properly you may be able to get her to pump up your kites for you. ![]()

... oh so true, but then again ... there is no more arguements on holiday destinations, you share the stoke at the end of the day, double the kites you own if you want to with out having to lie about it or you can share the kite quiver so therefore halving the quiver outlay, birthday or christmas presents are easy to organise, when the wind is up you don't have to bullsh!t the missus where your going, drinking with your mates at the beach til after dark is fully sanctioned ... yep, there are benifits!! ![]()
Buyer beware by the way !!!
Not only girlfriends-in my case non-kiting boyfriend has been expressing an interest in learning to kite. I even bought him a trainer kite for Christmas so we can see if he is serious.
Also not sure if this interest is good or not, as I quite like having my personal assistant (aka KiteBitch
) sitting on the beach for said help with kite pumping, board changovers, beer handups and launch/lands
and he quite likes hanging out with the numerous female personal assistants usually there
.
women have a domestic brain and are much happier back at the nest baking and tending to the childeren. they may protest when they are younger but this is just some misguided ideal they get from daytime television.
My girlfriend surfs and is up on a kiteboard now. Pretty epic. All she wants to do is go on surf/kite trips with me. Going to bali in feb for a bit of a surf and kite trip. Its awesome having a girlfriend that enjoys the same things as you.
But there is one rule that seems to cause tears all the time...she is allowed to drop in on me but i'm not allowed to return the favour. Otherwise there will be sulks.
Got her a trainer kite for Christmas. well, actually i just wanted a trainer kite to play with waiting for the seabreeze at the beach... so i got her one for Christmas.
She thought it was sooooo sweet that i wanted her to join in my fun/obsession.
it has worked so far with the snow boarding thing... except that i want to go 'over there!! (points at black run balls deep powder), while she wants to go 'over there' (points at smooth groomed runs near the lifts, toilets and food and crowds).
thankfully she gets passionate about this type of thing, and organises/researches and generally obsesses over every detail (meaning i dont miss a single powder dump all winter).
zanzibar in july it is then! (yep, she has already found the cheapest/flatest/sandiest bottomest lagoonest/warmest place mentioned on the internet to do her 'learning week').
the biggest problem is going to be explaining why the 'pretty one' is not the ideal kite for her
Who wants stabber to teach them kiting?
But I can only do one lesson at a time!.... Fluck it!...I'll improvise.
ok if you are flat water kiter ..be prepared for some long swims/rescues and some tears if you like the waves......
Remember that time we drove all the way to the spot and we realized I'd forgotten my board? So you drove me back to get it.![]()
And there was the time I left your safety on the island so you paddled over and got it.![]()
More recently when my kite was floating seaward heading towards the deadly cungee in big swell and you paddled out and untangled it from the rocks.![]()
Craggers - exercise caution; I can now kite pretty well, but Prawn nearly killed me on a number of occasions and I've spent a fortune on penalty cases of beer ![]()
putting on the Dr Phil hat for a moment, ![]()
relationships need time out and people need to have their own interests if your doing this for your own self interest then karma might come back atch ya.
sporty chicks are hot chicks whatever they enjoy doing IMHO , id rather have her out doing active stuff then taste testing her new recipe in a kitchen.. each to their own i guess.
main down side of sharing kites is you might have to keep an eye out for her for some time depending on her progression and conditions which can screw up your own stoke if your in it for personal enjoyment , considering kite surfing is one of those selfish water sports we all enjoy doing.
Ezza, Prawn.... are you two sitting next to each other having a talk over a forum!?!!?!
Sheeeeeeez. Share a kite, and it all gets awkward at home!? having doubts now....![]()
He pretends it was a pain in the arse but I know he really enjoyed giving up all those days with great waves and NE'sters watching me body drag in the river and then dragging me back upwind by my harness. Good times ![]()
When I first met my wife I was stoked that she wanted to learn how to windsurf with me rather than bitch that I was always at the beach....
18 years later we have had 4 trips windsurfing and kiting together in Maui and countless other similar holidays, we have bought a house by the beach and she sends me texts at work when she sees a kite in the air....while she no longer kites or windsurfs she understands the buzz that we all get.
Life is good!!
Tanos ur application is being considered! So long as u hav a heart beat n can kite Id b stoked. We may hav initial issues with ur French accent but I believe if u pump my kite n lay my lines out each time we would get past that!
Smithy ur life is awesome!!! Love it
