im going to perth after christmas this year and i think im staying somewhere in the city.. is there any flat water spots close ? that i can get to via public transport?
i was there last season, and stayed in freemantle..
i might have to just buy a **** car or something, but insurance as a P plater fricken sucks lol
hmm just checked google earth, doesnt look like there are any other spots apart from woodies and saftey bay that are close..
Bus will take you close to woodman point or Pinnaroo point or even scarb's if you want a wave or 10. send be a msg and maybe tee up something while your here. 
Yeah Danny have to agree with ash, plenty of coast from freo up to Mullaloo and most of it one train and one bus from the city, just need aksa tags for some of the beaches, the rangers get the proper hump at cottesloe (i've heard). but once you meet with a few of the locals, they'll hook you up with rides etc.

If you get a piece of crap car, have you considered 3rd party insurance only? Not the stuff for public liability that you automaticallly get with your WA car rego. Smash into Ferrari and your covered, your cars not, 99% of bingles are under $1000 which doesnt even reach the excess on most policies.
