Can anyone out there give me some info,photo or whatever on how to put straps on an old surfboard.What are the best etc> thanks
I would try self tapped screws 
(of course, pre-drill a small holes first) and use a glue or loctite to keep the screws on its place. Iam not using surf board straps, so cant help you with that..

If you are competent to glass, use a router to cut a groove for one of each pair (front and rear) on either side of the stringer. (Don't cut the stringer, it will weaken the board lots - not good for the stresses involved in kiting)
If you are not good at fibre glassing (like me), don't set the board (and maybe house) on fire, get some one to put them in.
Put them a good bit further forward than your surfing stance.
An old surfboard is one of my favorite kite boards, some of them can be really good. I find the thinner the better.

i took an old webber afterburner to a boardshaper/repairer, took fcs fins out and put glass ones in, fixed a huuge ding, and put boxes in for straps. $250 from memory, rode it for two seasons, bloody thing just wont die.
more to the point, i reckon for boxes only someone would do them for $100 -$150 maybe "professional" job so you'll get a season or two out of them.
dont listen to the strapless guys, they are always harping on about the benefits of riding unstrapped

thanks for the info guys.I'm just starting out in kitesurfing and having trouble getting up on my board but once i get the hang of it i'm will be ditching the straps too.
only problem is when you dump the straps you will be flamed for riding strapless
better leave them on
and dont mention unhooking
Get it done professionally... If you do it yourself then chances are you will be riding strappless soon enough...

If you want to do it on the cheap, route a hole, insert a large penny washer with a nut on the underside, fill the nut with plastocine (play dow) and any area that you don't want filled with epoxy. Insert and fill with epoxy from bunnings (must be the more liquid type), take into acount that you want epoxy between the nut and foam. The key part of all this is to make sure the bond between the fibre glass and epoxy is best as can be, you can under cut the foam a bit to increase the surface area of the epoxy/glass part and roughen up any surfaces aswell.
Once dry drill a hole little bit bigger than your screw until you hit the plastocine but stay clear of the washer/nut combo. You can dig out the plastocine and job done. Personally f the straps and go strappless.
I was given a board by CoreyB, snapped in half just in front of the side fins. Repaired the snap, filled the pressure dings with Q-cell and re-glassed the entire board top and bottom for under $200. The board weight doubled but it was light board beforehand and it is just under 3kgs anyway. Could have made it a bit lighter but went overboard on the snapped section.

I had an ex-boyfriend (lovely chap
) who was mates with a surfboard shaper, so after I had selected a suitable board he took round a six-pack of beers (some might call that a support group) and the shaper sunk 4 plastic plugs into the deck and glassed over them. Job done.
The plugs I had bought from a sailboarder's outfitter for $2 each. Self tapping (stainless please) screws then went solidly into these and I have been caning that board for two seasons now (even snapped off the nose) but the footstraps have not even moved a millimetre. You wouldn't want to be taking them off and putting them back on a lot or you'd chew out the thread.
The footstraps i use (after trying a number of kite-specific surf straps including Mystic) are old skool Stonker ones. two bits of velcro and a relatively narrow strap so you can slide your feet to the rail easily if you want to or if you want to gybe your not so locked in by your straps.

Years ago I put single threaded inserts into a few boards. White plastic tapered with rows of encircling edges to stop it pulling out and with threaded insert. You drilled about 1/2" hole and half filled it with resin, then tapped the insert in. It had a lip designed to push through the skin then catch under the skin when it was in.
Very easy to put in and worked well.
If anyone knows of a company still making them, they are a simple solution.
