hi all,

i'm just wondering how those of you with a station wagon secure your kite in the car ?

with a sedan, disabling the lever to pop the boot & locking the backseats upright makes the boot fairly secure, however i just bought an outback and while more practical, i'm worried about the lack of boot security.

plenty of people in the community drive such vehicles, what's your method ??

thanks

You can get a pull out screen that goes form the back seats to the back window

Most theifs won't break into a car on the off chance there is something good in there,If they can see a laptop or a mobile phone or a kite bag or something of value they will break in,either cover you stuff in the back with a tarp or old bed spread or something ,or take yourf kites out of the flash bags with the writing all over them and get some cheap strippy plastic zip up bags from woolies, looks like a bag of dirty laundry in the back of your car,no one want to flog a bag of dirty laundry ,pull any associated kite or surfing stickers off your car,and even better get a savage cattle dog to guard your stuff ,not many people will go anywhere near a mean cattle dog

Tinted windows. All the gear fits in the back of the Outback under the luggage curtain. Close the curtain and you can't see anything in there.

A piece of black fabric or a dark blanket spread over everything also obscures everything from view pretty well.

Don't put any stickers on your car that advertise expensive stuff of any kind.

Park in secure, well exposed areas.

Make sure your house insurace covers your gear for theft from a locked vehicle.

Don't worry about it too much.

Just do what you can to keep it out of sight and park in the best place you can. Tinted windows and the sliding boot cover on my WRX keep my stuff hidden form prying eyes. I try to bring as little as possible if I can help it.

someone on here once suggested keeping all kite gear inside those pink lady sanitary napkin bins. There's a limited number of thieves that would want to steal them...

make a secure box and have an alarm not many thieves will try to open a lockup box whilst an alarm is going off!!

Window sticker:
(then pay one of the local kids to make noises in the bushes nearby whenever anyone gets near your car...)

I had one Cabrinha kite on my backseat overnight parked on the street. It was blowing hard the next day and I was pumped to get kiting. When I got to my car I found the window smashed and 3 more Cabrinha kites in there

The xc falcon wagon or the honda CRV. both have spare tyre under the boot floor. put the tyre in the boot and the kite in the compartment under the floor.
Also good for beer and ice.... (or heroin, canabis, cocaine if you don't like ice.)
