You should report it to the cops. It's bad when your board gets stolen from your garage like that! [}:)]

its terrible when they get your new kite as well. I guess if you are going through all that trouble to break in to your shed they wouldn't just take your board and leave that new kite behind

Fraud is fraud. Its stealing whatever way you look at it. You can try blur the lines because you pay premiums, but its still stealing.

And if you do follow their advice on a forum where you name is listed under your username and get caught, you only have yourself to blame. If you think insurance companies don't pick up on these things, you'd be surprised what they do.

Couldn't agree more. And if they get so many claims for our sport and find out most of which are fraudulent, then what says that a) they will stop insuring the gear or b) charge ridiculous premiums.

If you lose something; take it like man.

Pay that little extra for the platinum insurance.
I have a clumsy wife. God bless you Jacq but you are. So I pay for the platinum insurance that means anything in my house is covered for LOSS, stolen or motor burn out. Everything is covered. So if my couch was to get lost, its covered.
Includes all my kites and boards and everything.
Worth looking into.

technically and legally yes... although after my recent experiences with insurance, i'm not even sure who would be the victim here... for example, my car got stuck in the middle of the road/street because the city water pipe burst and the bitumen completely collapsed making front of my car get fully stuck into a half a meter deep hole (middle of suburban street) when i drove over that section. It was night, and impossible to predict or see this would happen. There was a water pipe fault/leak there, that was reported 2 days prior, but city west water didn't give a sh1t about it nor about the waste of leaking water... they treated it as low priority, until this happened to me and the pipe had a major burst.
Once i went through insurance, with the towing, and repairs (although minor only), they in the end charged me with excess of $500 saying it's my fault that this happened, because the liable party City West Water didn't want to accept the responsibility. (despite the fact i had photos, and witnesses). Oh, forgot to mention i was customer for 10 years and not a single claim. The most frustrating thing was the attitude of the insurance people (CGU)... they simply didn't give a SH!T (i would expect them to chase the liable party, but they did jack all). Therefore my stance when it comes to insurance has dramatically changed. Most of them are f*&$ing busters who just want to make money and rip people off wherever they can.

The insurance in question was CGU - keep away from them... PLEASE!!!! I discovered many more people recently who had very bad experience with them. If it's not too late, at least change companies...

depends on your policy, most home contents insurance policies will allow you to specify stuff like sporting equipment that is covered when away from the house - ie if you kite gear gets stolen from you car or hotel, etccc - probably a bit of a stretch if you lost it at sea tho

i added my kite gear as specified items on my insurance. they are covered anywhere in australia if they are stolen. they are not covered whilst in use and i dont know any insurance company that would do so. only cost $6 a week.

fraudulent claims are only going to make it so no kiting gear will be covered, like rloemker take it like a man. also always mark your gear its amazing how many times it comes back.

The limitation on most sporting gear is that its not covered while being used. You could try with the lost at sea option and maybe you'll get lucky.

my insurance policy does not cover sporting goods whilst in use, however does cover surfboards whillst in use. I didn't request anything special and it is covered under my normal household goods through QBE. My kite is not covered if lost during use. just check your policy.
