Yes this happens almost all the time......
In fact all of us kiteboarders have been hit in the head many many times like this .........so much so, we cant decide if we should wear board shorts or wetsuits so if you see kiters wearing boardies over their wetsuit that is because they have been hit in the head by a launching kite...
I have been hit many times
did I mention this happens all the time........

I recommend you take your walks in the park from now on, it will be much safer ......or just stay under your bridge.

brettobrien,

...It is common to have hallucinations, k/nighmares after heavy drinking...and delirium tremens ..as you describe.., can be painful and last for weeks......

...don't touch that stuff for a while, mate, have nice walks....and find something meaningful to do in lonely afternoons....

brettobrien,

If you have in fact been injured by a kite and you are legitimately seeking answers to your questions-

It isn't common for members of the public to be injured by kites, however there seem to be a lot of near misses discussed here and a general discord between the responsible majority of kiters and the irresponsible few who kite in a manner that put the public at risk. It's also possible an inexperienced beginner was flying the kite.

Your second question is a bit short of detail to answer properly. You ask if anyone has heard of this sort of injury, but you don't describe your injury at all.

If you have been injured by a kite and you want to pursue the matter further you should contact the official body for kiting in your area to find out what courses of action are available to you.

If you have been injured by a kite and are wondering why the responses above don't seem to take you seriously, having only 1 post makes you look a lot like a troll. If you are a troll then good luck to you, if you aren't then we hope you're ok.

Brett you're lucky.
Many regular kite beach users have been hit repeatedly on the head driving us into the soft sand at many of WA's beaches, like brightly coloured, board short covered nails.

I came to inside an inflated kite bladder one night.

I fell asleep in the sand after a big session. When I woke up I was at least 20 meters up but being shaken around like a clitoris on a vibrator.

Took me while to realise I was Brett O'Brien's womb mate!

Troll?

If your first experience of kites at the beach is getting hit by one then you're hardly likely to have been posting on Seabreeze before!

Brett

Check if the guy had IKO insurance - you may be in for a windfall!

And then we can see if the insurance system actually would ever pay a claim!!

Helpful Kitesurfers

I enjoy your humour and your real comments.
I did not get the guys name - he was at Pinnaroo Pt in WA.
He was helpful - but my thoughts were about getting to emergency.
My enquiry was about trying to come to some understanding with what had happened.
I have had an op and everybody says I am lucky.
Maybe in 6 months I can use my arm and work again.
Since the first post - I have heard of one other on the same beach 2 weeks ago.
Your comments are appreciated.

Maybe you could post some before and after (the accident) piccies of yourself and we could start an appeal for you mate.

Incidentally, was there any brain injury?

So you work for the council and want a good reason to shut down another kiting spot. You wont need that arm for leaning on a shovel TROLL.........

Why dont you just make up a second fake login and give yourself the answers you are looking for.
