No waves at Brighton. Would be a better spot than at Wello, given it's a southerly wind. Look up Nineteenth Avenue, Brighton in your refidex or GPS. There'll be lots of other kiters there. It's probably about 50 minutes drive from Alex Hills.
Decent SE predicted the further north you go. Depends how mobile you are. If you need to train it, Sandgate has a train station. Sandgate is a couple of km south of Brighton in the same bay with flatwater and is also popular but wind needs to be proper SE as it gets shielded if it shifts more southerly. Although its flat water sometimes you get a decent chop and small waves to 2 foot face. The water is dirty whether its wello, sandgate or brighton. You need to go to the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast for crystal water and real waves.
thanks hop
yer i have my car so i'm mobile. might head up sandgate or brighton tomorrow.
hopefully some wind. haven't been out for a few weeks and im desperate lol![]()

Wello works in most directions, I wouldnt waste time going anywhere else until wind solidifies, as 1/. you are close to it, 2/. it works in most wind directions, even offshore westerly, and 3/. Wello has good and friendly crowd. But beware that kiteboarding equipment in the entire Redlandshire is banned by council. Make sure you rig, launch and land well below the high water level mark or you might cop a $400 fine. Ask the locals for advice when you get there, and follow where they rig/launch.
Up the road at Wynum (end of Davenport Drive next to Royal Queensland Squadron on the Esplande) is also popular for for kiters and works well for SE. For both wello and wynum, booties are recommended if you dont know the area well.
Sandgate/Brighton is about a good 35-40 minutes drive north, over the gateway bridge. Forecast has not been coming through this last week. Our shop/school is at Sandgate based right on the beach, so if you need anything, we are right there to help. There are also public toilets and showers here, and fish & chips shop/cafe across the road. Lots of kiters, learners and lessons here if there's wind so stay well clear of people when you kite! Never kite into people's killzone, and stay at least 50m clear of others.
Best bet for wind I reckon after wello would be down Gold Coast and try the surf if you are competent, else stay well clear. The power of surf is no joke. Narrowneck is popular, so is Currumbin, but make sure you find out where to kite and where not to from the locals. Stay well clear of flags, swimmers and surfers. A couple of flat water spots down there too - Shearwater Esplande, Loda's creek... Google SEQKA and all the local info is there.
Have a great time here!

Cool thanks surf connect. Yer I'm sweet I'n the surf. Just keen for anything haven't been out for a while.
So down at wello now. Easterly breeze. Plenty of pole dancers out but mno kiters. Don't know where to set up without being arrested lol
As mentioned before, anywhere below the high tide mark, Don't be caught with any gear on the ground above high tide.
Good luck to you if you can find the signs, they are cleverly hidden
Ok so wello was a fail for me. Got a muddy kite now. Next time i might just wait until other kiters arw there before i do anything lol. Other than that i think I'll travel to Brighton.
hey. is brighton the go today? anyone getting out? what beacon do i look at for that spot?
