Why is it,

Wagga Wagga can be just Wagga.

Kurri Kurri is just Kurri.

But Woy Woy is never just Woy ????

Hey Mate,

I live in Melbourne but my family live in Wagga. I'd say your best bet would be to get some lessons next time you are down the coast. These are crucial for anyone wanting to start out.

Unfortunately you are pretty limited with where you can get the kite up so the learning curve will take a lot longer as you will be driving pretty far to kite.

I have been keeping an eye on the winds at lake albert this week but it has been pretty gusty with limited launch/landing areas. If you are planning to kite on the lake or any other big dams in the area make sure you have someone with a boat to help.

If you are still keen to get started, buy yourself a trainer kite, this will teach you about the wind window, the power zone and some basic kite controll. Get the Progression kite boarding DVD as that will help you a lot as well.

Good luck.

haha, i lived there for two years...
kites stayed in the shed and bought a 4wd and a motorbike instead.
now back by the coast and kites have been dusted off.
odd sport to take up given your location.
lol.

Lived in Canberra for too long and the winds there where never strong enough and when it was it was super gusty. Can't imagine Wagga being any different. Crap for learning, best winds are sea breezes so you might have to travel a bit.
