hey guys, just got back from talking to the lifeguards after copping an earful off the lifeguards about the events that took place there today. one kid was taken out by an out of control learner kiter, and over 15 people at one stage were kiting in the no boating zone, and in and amoungst swimmers and even riding between the flags. so a headsup that they are having the water police patrolling over the next few weeks, handing out fines to anyone kiting without a PFD1 life jacket on, riding within 200 metres of the shoreline, and riding within 50 metres of another swimmer. (impossible to avoid)
maybe stick to other beaches for a few weeks until they settle down ![]()
On a day as warm as today it would've been packed, there isn't enough room to safely launch/land. Poor drills.
there is a serious problem at aspendale on the warmer days as beach goers tend to spread out and don't allow any space for setting up a kite. when it comes to getting into the water there are people everywhere.
towards the end of today it improved with the beach just about empty. there should be signage saying that this is a kiting area like brighton
Living and kiting here I am sick of asking newbies and visitors not to set up or kite in the middle of the swimming zone.
Here is a clue.....if none of the local crew are out, odds are the direction is not right!!!
and... if you are learning, start downwind of the no boating area instead going through the middle of it and the swimmers.
Dont give them an excuse to shut us down!!

thats what you get for stupid behaviour. Really disapointing to hear
I was kiting at a beach not far from Aspendale. I could see Aspendale and it looked like a field of daisies with all these kites waving around in the breeze.
Meanwhile I and my two companions had a whole stretch of coast all to ourselves. Nice wide, sandy beach to launch from. Big waves everywhere. Clean wind. Not many swimmers and they were all in a bunch up at one end.
I hope kiting doesn't get banned at Aspendale. It is is my interest for all you attention seeking cretins to be penned up in one location.
If they do ban it at Aspendale then please please please go to St Kilda. It's the perfect place for you and exactly where you belong.
I have always wondered about boating zones, how do you find out about them? I ride on the east side of mordy pier and it's great cause there is no one else there, come ride with me for a few weeks.
Also whats this about having to wear a PFD is that law? Where do i get this info?

No kiting at Gnotuk?![]()
Please don't let this happen!![]()
There is a band of guys there that are friendly, supportive, offer to lend a hand and are all round nice guys.
To loose the right to kite here, would be a disaster!
I have riden these waters for about 8 years (almost costing my life) and I would hate to loose the priverlidge to ride there any more ![]()
The problem is that every summer or hot day, a lot of people crowd the beach, making it imposible to safely launch or land a kite.
I don't think there is an easy solution, only to say we all (visiters included) may need to think about every other water user. Damn tourists ![]()
Thanks 'HarryPotter' I think im sweet then.
Juggler - I believe the Mordialloc pier runs north/south thats why i say east side. But yea, the Aspendale side is better as less people on the beach and in the water.
Hope they don't start banning areas though it would be a real shame.
sorry stamp its hard being the best but the problem at gnotuck is the blow in's who have no idea dont ask quetions and rape the joint by not taking into consideration other riders and beach goers. all it take is a small hello to a local and there more then happy to lend a hand or give advise but when people turn up just for the day and have not respect for the spot or others thats what really pisses me off. I do apolagise to the man i had a run in with and we did talk and sort it out but the last thing i want is for someone to get hurt or the spot banned from kiteboarding and from know on if i see people doing the wrong thing there and refuse to listen i will be cutting lines and screaming words at you. sorry also to the people that blushed at the sound of my fowel mouth.
Gday Guys,
I guess I would be considered a "Blow in" to your great Kiting Area (Gnotuk). I have moved down from Sydney recently so hope to make it a regular spot. I wouldn't consider myself a newbie though with "Best" being a brand new company when I first started.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to say Gday on the next good day although when the wind is up talking isn't my favorite thing to do.
Happy Kiting.
Andrew
PS: I wasn't me who pissed off the Life guards
and you'll have to forgive me but I ride Cabrinha ![]()
