me and a mate wanna go on a kite trip. we live in darwin and wanna drive to perth via the coast. just wondering if this is a good idea because i have no idea if there are spots to kite along the northern WA coast. can you kite at places like broom, port headland, karatha, onslow, exmouth, carnarvon, geraldton, and places inbetween?
whens the high season?

would it be better to do the east coast instead maybe?
cheers

Not a good idea, pretty much the whole WA coast is devoid of decent wind and waves and is incredibly sharky. Go figure.

northern WA is horrible. I really wouldn't kite there if I was you.

... In all seriousness, everywhere from Exmouth - Perth is packful of options, and if you have a 4WD you'll have the time of your life. Not sure about north of exmouth as I've never kited there, but I hear stories of broome, pt headland and karratha. Try the search function for more info. Take your small kites between Oct and March.

Don't forget there are often crocodiles as far south as Coral bay at that time of year. But you're from NT and probably used to them eating your gear on the beach.

Depends if there is wind, and which direction, and on the tides, which spot to kite.
Lots of options really, choose what is best for you.

Do a seach, there are lots of other postings about Exmouth spots.

If you're keen, go the gulf in an easterly in the am, but it's choppy. Some folks don't seem to mind that stuff. I prefer to save me energy for an extended pm session oceanside! Search for terms like graveyards & sandy bay (here & in the gallery)

Wind starts september. Exmouth has many great spots, canarvon has a silky flat water inside the estuary (but a bit dirty after Exmouth!), don't forget flat water at Shark Bay.

Gero has corros, sunsets, hells gates .. then there's Greenhead, Leeman, Cervantes, Jurien Bay, Wedge, Lancelin.

You may just never make it to Perth... (don't be in a hurry, as all the best spots are out of Perth)

You know it laurie. Bugger the Gulf, the breezes are up, the swell is up and the season has started. But you will not see the wind because you haven't got a graph for the coast up here.

When I was up there, I picked up some crew from learmonth airport, and they had kites, surfboards and even a guitar .. so you could take it they're ok with it?

I guess you've given em a ring .. they're a small company, so more personable than Quantas etc?
