I live down at secret harbour and was just wondering how much stronger the wind is there compared to the weather station at Garden Island.
You can see on the bom site a huge difference in both wind direction and strength between Mandurah and Garden island.
What does everyone do in deciding if it is worth while to make the drive.

Pack everything and head down, it's the only way to be sure

Generally this is a vast difference between garden island and mandurah on the charts and in reality. Secrets would be in between rocko and mandurah, but closer to mandurah. We live somewhat in wind hollow that extends to bunbury. The winds are also gustier. Personally I think it is the interplay with the cold waters of the estuary. But secrets wouldn't be affected like this.

As moony said, you gotta take all your gear and always err on the side of it being lighter than expected. occasionally you get surprised.

And dont believe the mandurah chart its always wrong. last week i was riding in 25 - 30 se wind on my 8m at mandurah and the chart was reading 8knots.
but you can always bet that the wind is stronger at safety bay.
