Anybody know if the beach off shang ri la fiji is good for kiting?. How well does the wind get into that part of the coral coast?
From google maps it looks like a lagoon for about 500m to the reef. I'm guessing the lagoon is only kiteable on a higher tide? can the reef be surfed?
I stayed there for a wedding a few years ago, from memory the lagoon out the front was quite sheltered from the wind.
...and clearly that trip was before I turned into a frothing kite addict, otherwise I would have paid more attenion ![]()
Stayed at the outrigger, better place than shangri la IMO, good wind in june / july I wasn't kiting at the time but there where a few boys going hard off the beach, low tide would be dicey but there's a good sandy beach and surf 10min away Something?? dunes, cant remember there name but a huge stretch of sand
My Fiance is there right now checking out spots for our Wedding next year and also gave her strict instructions to check out the kite spots.![]()
When she is back at the end of the week I'll let you know what I find out.
She is going to the Shangri La too, I think today. I am hoping to be able to kite there also.
Thanks for the info.
I thought the main direction was SE, which would make it cross on shore at shang ri la?
Is the sigatoka rivermouth sand bottom,or reef?, and does it matter what the tide is doing?
Also the shang ri la was just an idea, any suggestions for anywhere else upmarket, good for familys with young kids, where you have good kiting right from the resort?
Might check out the outrigger
Thanks mr float, what size waves could you expect at the rivermouth, and is the best place to access it from the shangri la side? or do you kite across the river from the eastern side to access the beach?
Yeah thats it Sigatoga river!! We walked down from a surf club, huge beach, the locals stay a bit clear of the river mouth, sharks so they told me,little ones though.
I had a look at a number of resorts when there for next trip. Outrigger was tops,, food very pricy ( get the breaky in the deal)but you walk 300mts down the beach and there are 2-3 good cheap places to eat, fantastic pool and kids club if you have em..Warwick and the pearl also good. Hire a car cheap as>>
Stayed at Shangri la a couple of years back and surfed the lagoon pretty much every day and had a blast - some rocky outcrops to watch out for but visability is usually pretty good - rode my 15 and my 10 on a TT - Sigatoga is where I took to the waves with a surfboard.
Lagoon is good for cruising and in August the wind was awesome
only issue with the lagoon is the small takeoff/landing area - definately not a place for learners.
