Hi all,
just wondering if anyone has kited south west rocks and if so where and in what wind direction - going there this week (not that the forecast is so flash, but best be prepared!)
Thanks and hope to get a few reasonable replies, not that it ever happens on this site

Hi Holly

I was there last weekend, Rob Godwin from up your way was there and should still be there camped out at trial bay. He told me that the NE gets in there OK, but the wind in close is dampened by some ridge lift caused by the trees and steep hills along the shore line. However the place is absolutely stunning and if you have surfboards, sups and good walking shoes you will have plenty to do. Visit the lighthouse at Smoky cape, wickedly beautiful, take a camera!

We drove to Noosa and back, all the way was brown or discoloured water, SW Rocks and Trial Bay area were turquoise blue. Heaps of wildlife in the area, it really is a very special part of Australia, if you are camping there is free camping with toilets and showers on the ocean side of Trial Bay, but you share with heaps of quite tame kangaroos!

The amazing thing about the spot is that the Trial Bay area hooks that far round that a westerly wind is onshore. Not many places on the East coast that west wind is onshore on the ocean.
Beautiful spot to hang,,pubs got nice food as well.

Hi there Holly, long time no see,
I've been going to SWR for ever. Like Geroa it gets a strong seabreeze effect. Trial Bay was fine for windsurfing but the offshore direction makes it pretty ordinary re launching. Back beach is fine, especially right in front of Back creek with an outrunning tide. You can walk around the foot bridge or just walk across the bar at low tide to get there.
Anything from the West is fine. Sthly's are out, very gusty offshore,(although I've done it plenty of time myself) unless you go to lighthouse beach. But get there early cause the swell picks up quickly there.
Check out little bay for a surf. Have fun & BTW do yourself a favour & have a $1.80 Macadamia icecream from the kiosk at Main Beach. It's a family tradition!
cheers
Col
