after every kite i have i find a perfect circle of wax been pushed away from where i ride with my front foot. I asked one of the bws riders once and he said use "Far King" wax. so i did, i scraped the old wax off put a new layer of far king wax on and same issue.

i know i could go and stick on a sheet of deck grip but id rather not: it looks too old skool

anyone found another solution?

I have tried the Bali brew followed by the cold water wax and after a long session you still get the same problem. Now a carry a small wax comb in one sleeve of my wetty and a small block of wax in the other. I then rewax as needed during my session out the back between sets . If you find a better solution can you let me know.

Cheers Croc :-)

I used to deal with this then I just put deck grip on

to give it a go

it feels rank for about 1-2 sessions

then you will never go back to wax as it works so well

dont worry about the cool police

wax really is a pain in the a$$ in so many ways and deck grip is actually equal too

or maybe greater in terms of grip try it

I would still only ever use wax for surfing though

Keep moving your foot around to different spots as the waxs warms under foot , or just get deck grip best option never any slip issues even when the ocean gets soapy at times
. Pluse it saves the deck on your board heaps.

There is nothing more annoying than when you get caught with a smooth board mid session eh! I also don't think there is much you can do to stop the wax being pushed off your board.

Most longer sessions I will end up stopping way out the back where I will float and do a super quick re wax on the heel spots. Other guys rather do it on the beach. Either way it's a pretty painless solution. So as a couple of others have mentioned;

1) Take a small lump of your wax (& comb if you like) with you in your pocket and re wax when needed.

2) The water is warmer than past summers at the moment so you might want to try a wax suited to the warmer waters.

Haven't tried the deck grip before??? Guess it depends if your board doubles as your usual surfboard or not. I've just got the one so sticking to wax.

Yep totally agree Bevo, I cut down a tail pad and stuck it on to get a bit better grip just for the Lighthouse to Leighton...... and never got around to taking it off.

Yeah it feels weird at first but you get used to it.

I often have 3hr+ sessions and used to hate always having that smooth spot after an hour or so.

If i was trying to use the board for surfing and kiting I would stick to wax but I have given up trying to do both on the one board, so deck grip it is for me, anyone that has seen me kiting in my bucket hat knows I don't give a damn about the cool police.

Yeah a grip would be ideal but it is my paddle surfboard too :(

In that case you just have to learn to live with it I think.
You can start by putting a base coat of really hard wax then put some softer grippier stuff on top but for long sessions you will still need to carry wax and a wax comb.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but do you move your feet out of the desired position when just riding around? For example when I'm not riding waves I move my feet to other locations on the board. I really don't ever have a problem with wax bunching up or coming off and I hardly ever re-wax my board... Maybe this is why?

When I'm cruising out past the waves I'm riding heel side, the wax isn't an issue. It's only coming in on my toeside going up wind I can't put my foot in any other position to get my balance perfect. This also happens to be the same spot I use when doing turns and airs

Never learnt how to ride switch. I have been kiting for 4'months and learnt on a surfboard with straps. Surfed all my life riding natural stance.

I may need to learn as that would solve the issue!

If you have/can borrow a twin tip. use that to practice heal side for a session or two. You will progress much quicker, then can switch back to your shortboard once you get the hang of it.

i put a stomp pad on backwards where my front foot goes . the raised bit is good when cruising back up wind and also when jumping you can push forward on it

I'm the opposite-move my feet heaps when riding and tend to lock em' in when punting back up wind.

I use a tail pad and super hard Sex Wax for the rest and use a wax comb or a shell or the like on the beach to rough it up. Was still gets flat and soft on a long session-especially in Indo in warm water.

Gale to hear I'm not the only one with this issue.
1. I don't wanna waste one minute of perfect wind trying to ride switch.
2. A tail pad for my front foot would be ideal for kiting, although no good when paddling into waves
