A mate (noob) just arrived from overseas with a very good condition 2006 sb2 is there any way to retrofit an ids or other safety system to make it safer at the moment the safety leash attaches to the steering back line??

The safety leash is meant to be attached to the centre line, below the bar and above the chicken loop.
Primary safety is let go of the bar, secondary safety is flag to one rear line or release the kite.
It is possible to fit a Crossbow2 trim strap and then you would have a flagging front line but the kite still should only be ridden with the leash on the centre line, as above.

No the kite cannot be fitted with IDS.

That's not quite correct. Most riders attach the leash to the centre line but all that does is prevent you losing your kite if the donkey dick comes adrift (it can twist and come out but it's pretty rare.)

For the vast majority of situations simply pushing the bar out is adequate.

If you want a flagging leash then hook the leash onto the ring on the back line. You won't be able to spin the bar. Make sure you don't accidentally attach the leash to the ring on the bar. It has to go on the ring on the line.
