starting riding strapless 3 weeks ago and loving the challenges. i find that i have to re wax evey hour or so which i find annoying. questions are do you take old wax off at any stage??, and how do people rate foot pads??.

Every hour!!!! What are you using?? Candle wax!!! No just keep piling it on. Sex wax for first coat and ms palmers for (it's soft an sticky) re apply. I can go a few sessions without new wax but if I have it I always reapply. Use a tail pad also. I wouldn't bother about the front.
Def a rear pad. I like a front pad too if I'm not going to paddle surf it. Better traction, easier on the board with a bit of cushioning & no maintanence.
