So who prefers a good upwind wave ride to down the line?

Well I've tried for some years to feel the love for down the line wave riding. But at the end of the day I prefer charging upwind of the wave face.

I love that feel of power from the kite and power from the wave at the same time. Hold it on the wave face until it closes out then bar in and crank down the face and just miss a hammering. Great fun.

Had a wicked session today. SOLID walls on a point break. A good 1.5 some double head. All the down the line guys clear out and left leaving me with my own personal line up of epicness! . Mustn't have been a good angle for DTL riding.

Awesome angle for me. super clean faces ahhh. boost of the double head walls on the way out. That is why I started kitesurfing.

Anyway. Am I just a weirdo? or the others who prefer upwind wave riding?

theres something for everyone in kitesurfing. its loops for me recently but I still loose my **** when I boost off a wave and can time it to land back on the same wave.

I agree, though it is probably because I haven't really nailed the kite control part of downwind wave riding. Upwind is powerful and controlled.... But i do want to work out the down wind version too!

Throw some loops Dave. makes for easy down the lining and or throw the kite back and forth across the window as you carve. or point it up towards the zenith and hope it drfts. but if you don't have a kite that drifts well... not so good.

going across the green face of the wave witH your kite powered up,apposed to bearing off downwind to stay on the wave and riding towards your kite.I to am a weirdo and love being powered up across the wave and getting air off the lip and landing on the same wave.

yep, another upwind waver. i love getting that cranked up charge as far up the line as possible.

Working on throwing my board back up the face for a half decent snap

Got to admit down the line surfing with a drifting kite is my preferance but being a natural footer its always my back hand with sea breezes on east or west coast of Oz.
but forehand punt and off the top carves upwind just as good.
Really I don't care I just love seeing the sand moving.

It's actually the variety which does it for me. Some days down the line is sooooo sweet. Otherdays upwind on the face pawered up. Somedays just charging on a twin-tip.

I think I have a short attention spa....... what's that? Look over there!

I tend to view the surf zone as a skate park. Use the flats between the waves for big powerful forehand turns down the line. Head out and hit a wave face with a big reenrty before riding it back to shore. Upwind powered when it head high, it's fun just outrunning the sections. Variety is what it's all about.

Yep had a session like that yesterday morning on my new catalyst. Awesome fun. Good down the line to. But yeh upwind riding as you describe it (is there another way, I find it doesn't quite suite), is so much fun for dogstyle riding.

What is this dogstyle you talk of?
Not a nice mental image in my head right now...

dog stylin is powered freeriding in the waves. a combination of boosting of wave lips and carving up waves with some old school thrown in for good measure. As KIT33R describes. To use the wave section as your personal skate park rather than concentrate on surfing the wave like a purist surfer.

Typically but not allways the dogstyler rides a mutant.
