G'day all, a mate just gave me a windmeter that he had lying around and im just wondering does the whole less dense humid air thingy also affect the meter, for example does a humid wind that is blowing at 15 kn measure the same on the meter or does it register something like 14 kn because the less dense air has a reduced effect on the prop blades of the meter? Aswell on a unrelated topic the guy next to me at work went off on a bit of a tangent when I asked him and is now trying to convince me that the higher you go from groundlevel the more time slows down for you. Cheers for any advice.
I'd say if it has a reduced effect on the blades it has a reduced effect on your kite so don't worry about it. I have noticed 20kn in winter feels a lot stronger than 20kn in summer. Supposedly the denser cold air has more momentum to pass onto the kite. Or it could just be that I'm colder and less willing to get wet.
Also your mate is right in theory. But you're probably not boosting high enough or long enough to worry about that either

+1 The anemometer has extremly low friction on its rotational axis so it is not measuring the ability of the wind to do work ie. the "wind energy". There are generally three cups on the instrument, at any moment in time there is an equal distribution of cups facing the wind and cups not facing the wind. the rotation is caused by the difference in friction between the two states. It stands to reason then that the density of the air is compensated for because any changes of density are exerted on both the forward and reversed cups equally :-)

that would be time dilation based on Einsteins theory of relativity, if you travel around the world at the speed of light you will come back 200 years later, if you fly in a plane enough times you might add a few seconds to your whole lifetime, so by boosting you might add 0.0000000000000000000001 of a second (not sure if enough zeros) to your life but I don't think it has anything to do with whether you are on the ground or in the air, just the speed and time so the faster you go the more time slows down but you can go much faster in the air or in space than on the ground.
And it is relative so you don't actually live any longer its just that your clock is faster than someone's who is standing still

There's a picture I can't find now, that has 3 anemometers in it and - all three have a different reading, by a couple of knots.
Use the meter you have to give you a number - it may or may not be the actual wind speed. Rig your kite and remember how it performs versus that reading. Do NOT use it for bragging rights! Notice what the water is doing, how the trees are bending, how the sand is blowing... soon, you won't need the meter.
Cold, dense air in winter WILL be more forceful at the same speed. We had fun in 15 knots today, with 10 to 15m kites and directionals to TTs. In summer it would just be endless frustration on even bigger kites...

I really only care because I want to know what the bottom end is for my 12m real time and its tricky for a hacker like me to judge the difference between 12 and 15 kn before launching also btw the rest of ya dont read too much into the whole time/altitude thing I didnt give enough detail but it all started because old mate missunderstood the watch slows down on international space station experiment that he had seen two nights ago on discovery he backed up his case with, I swear, the following: " you know them orange monks who live in tibet, well their live expectancy is like seven undred years because they live at a altitude of like ten thousand feet" (note hes a pommy hence the undred for 100.)

1. if your kite can lift off the ground while you are holding the leading edge then there is probably enough wind. but you never know if you don't give it a go. lose the anemometer and check a local wind station before you go.

Wind strength/ humidity,accuracy, when the sand start blowing along the beach means 25knts = wind strength, I then piss myself with excitement = humidity, pissing against the wind = not very accurate

You are, well at my beach, I've studied the wind for years , no need for a meter, I'd bet a carton on guessing the wind strength within 2 knts , it's when it gets high 20s and into the 30s that it becomes difficult, doesn't matter what it says on the beach, 25mtrs up and offshore it's completely different,

Hey this has gotten very academic, its all over my head, before knock off yesterday another guy at work told me: "a example of relative humidity is the sweat you get under your scrote when you are bonking your cousin". I took that windmeter down to the beach and the total stinkeye I received has cured me of the whole thing. I did some math about the time advantage based on what we know to be fact, if the average monk in tibet lives to 700 years at 12000 meters above sealevel then if you raised your bed a foot of the ground (using parrafin tins or bricks) you would gain about a month in realative time advantage over your neighbour for a lifetime.

Yes, in both cases. And you need to hit a high % of C for any "worthwhile" effects.
The body breaks down faster in low G, with effects equal to "aging", but the passing of time is very nearly similar for observers.

oi less gravity is equal to better longevity this has been researched to the end where people are trying to fund retirement villages on the moon less hart effort = longer life.

Fair enough kami you may have got me beat by the whole pre existing condition thing but watch out everything I know about time and space I learnt from Morgan Freeman on foxtel. Aswell as soon as I get off babysitting duty I'm going to the movies to do some more research. Damb this windmeter it has caused me nothing but trouble!
