Unchained ,where did you find that picture of the wierd looking 12 foot skiff? I tried looking for info on them before but couldnt find much.
I got it from my uncle who lives in queensland he owns a sailmaking company and has contacts that are doing some designing of the hulls and playing around with them.
There are a few out racing at the moment but they still need some developing.
Do they use rudder foils? They'd be bloody hard to sail downwind without them. They must be quick uphill.
hoop,u can get some other pics of the new 12ft skiff hull from www.vanmunsterboats.com/ and go to 12ft skiff there is also heaps of info
mate duno what your on about but that sure isn't a the new 12ft skiff design... looks more like a woof build.
Yeah thats the standard 12s. I was trying to find info on the new skinny ones.(thanks for that though). 12s look like fun to sail but they would be super expensive. $20000 for a bare hull ,then you need to get three rigs and fit the thing out.
Yeh but my god they would be a bloody awsome boat to sail.
I was talking to one of the guys who sails a boat in sydney, and his lightwind kite is 54sqm. God damn that would be fun.
As for price there is always sponsorship and also SECOND HAND BOATS, might of heard of them before. Dont know ![]()
oi so how much do you's reckon one of those new skinny 12's would cost 30 ,40 ,50 000 ??????? .. i saw 1 sailing on the wkend looked fast and nice but struggled in the light air to stay upright
i think their around 48000 rigged at the moment, but i guess as they set in, and become more common the price will lower.
It isn't really that much difference, if you look at the van munster site. The $20800 is for a bare hull without rudder box, without undercoat, without paint, without selfdraining. Just a bare carbon hull.
For a van munster hull fully rigged without masts, foils, booms or sails, it costs around $30000.
Then if you add the cost of 3 masts, 3+ sets of sails, booms, foils (1815 each) ect ect.
Then i guess its actually quite close together
Hey unchained, do you no the name of the company who is making these hulls, or which state the company is running out of , just thought u might know seeing that ur uncle has contacts with the people .
I know stuff all about it, all i got was an email with some pictures, and a price...
I think it's being made by a few people rather than a "company" as its not really in production yet.
so how come there are a few out racing would'nt it be just one boat these peolpe would be playing around with on ... just sounds a bit weird thats all .
umm as far as i know there is 1 racing. and the boat is still going through plannning and final checks...
As for your question hoop, I sent an email to my uncle, but he is in melbourne doing some motobike races, I dont think that hydrofoils are alowed on 12ft skiffs tho//
There are a few out racing at the moment but they still need some developing.
[/quote.
contradiction get it wright wat is it 1 or a few .
got no idea, i know of 1 racing, and 1 in production....
I know nothing else about this class, and as of now that is all the information I can give.
munster built the first skinny one for james francis im pretty sure, dont know whether he is racing it or not though?
you can see more 12s at www.skiff.org.au
i have a 12 and they dont really cost that much if you have a plan over a couple of years to set it up ive hade the same mast and mainsail for 8 years and its still quick
