Hi all, I am a first time contributor and novice sailor. I have a caper cat, and am slowly getting used to it and to sailing. I have three questions though re the caper cats:
1. I wonder if anyone out there knows how to check whether the hull joins on a caper cat are water tight?
2. Any ideas on a good arrangement for downward wind sailing, the caper cat flies when reaching but appears to really struggle with the wind (particular if going against any type of current)? and
3. Is it possible to source replacement keel strips? I know the boats are not manufactured any more, but someone may know a good sheetmetal worker?
Cheers
to see if your hulls a water tight you could fill them with water then turn the them over to see if the joins are water tight.
The manufacturer is Calypso Sailcraft,

They supply many replacement parts for caper cats.
I have some spare Caper cat keel strips. I am at Maroochydore, phone 0754796111.
Using the optional swing-down rudders will improve windward performance dramatically.
To check hulls, remove cover strips and wash the join . If there are cracks in the filler between the hull components, you will see them and you can replace the filler where necessary.
Thanks for all the tips. I will put some of these to the test on the weekend, not sure about filling up the hull though??
