Had to try real hard to think of someone I can recommend - a message in that.

For general diesel engine work, I have heard only good things about John Witchard of Witchard Marine ph: (02) 9979 5480 around Pittwater.
Easy to talk to as well on the phone.

Alternators - for typical low current (30-50A) best pricing probably from Auto Electricians (yellow pages; incl exchange units). For more serious amperage, you need to think about heavy frame alternators that can take the heat - truck size or marine specific; but much higher price.

On my fishing vessel I used Bosch alternators from 6 cylinder Falcons. I had two, one spare always ready to go. I paid about $20 for them from wreckers. When I had a failure the woman at the local auto electrical shop would rip them down and rebuild them while I watched.

the good thing about that Ramona is you can pull in any where along the coast of Australia find a spare

Lacey Marine at RPAYC. I had a bad experience with them 8 years ago but they were engaged to rebuild my engine after the petrol in the diesel experience 18 months ago, and it is an excellent job.
They aren't cheap but I will be using them for my future engine and shaft work.

I must agree, John is readily contactable, happy to provide advice and even recomend others if he cant do the job himself.

Douglas and sons at the RPAYC. Might be under All Inboard and Outboard. Fabulous service but they're ALWAYS busy, so it might be a bit of a lineup to get in.
