Sad. Conditions have been lake like. Maybe intentional
...sad either way

That is quite an exposed position for the yacht to be anchored in. I hope this is not another sad tale.

Given that it was found not anchored it could have drifted a long way. Doesn't sound hopeful. Very sad.

probably goes like this...........

1) man finds a cosy bed for the night ashore with a cosy companion.
2) yacht drags anchor and drifts out the bay to a nearby shore.
3) Search for man presumed overboard begins
4) After a cosy night or two, man takes a walk to town and reads the daily paper over a leisurely coffee and sees a pic of his boat on page 2!!!!
5) chocking on a sip of coffee..... the leisurely morning rapidly dissolves with the first thought being I must get my boat !! then thinking i'd better call the constabulary and let em know im ashore and ok...

I'm guessing his anchor dragged with a short scope, boat drifted out to sea with the tide. Anchor hanging down with chain acted as a sea anchor, boat carried by the East Australian current, with a swirl that took it inshore.

I am guessing the truth is more embarrassing than the guy wants to admit. Guitz's scenario sounds like something from personal experience.

Maybe he was as he said on a holiday, having left his boat in Sydney, then someone stole it but abandoned it by coincidence where it was found drifting. Or maybe he has alziemers or had a break down.
