Hi Guys. There seems to be a void under the floor in the area of the mast and table in the cabin but no access to this area. Is there any reasion for this? I would have thought that being able to see what is going on at the foot of the mast support would be important, as would having access to a void.

The cabin sole often creates voids. My sole creates an inaccessible space each side of the centre removable panel and as my water/fuel tanks are under the berths I have no access all the way up the hull.
You are right though, access to the mast/compression post step is important. They sometimes use timber wedges under the mast/post which do need to be checked for security. A small hole (say 2" dia) to shine a torch through should do it.

On my yacht there is a galvanised box section girder that passes under the mast and up the sides to the inboard shrouds pick up point. I would check with other Adams 31 owners first to find out what's in this void. There is a chance its steel sealed off from moisture.
