Following on from the hardware thread, what do you use, if any?

I've been using a handy phone app called "sailsafe" which I like. Set a defined radius, and it goes off when exceeded. You can also define sectors which is good if you don't have much swing room.

On day trips, I usually just zoom the plotter in to max and watch what the track record does, checking it every so often.

Be interested in what others use or don't use.

I have always just looked over the side. When setting the anchor I let the boat drift back and when I have turned up the rope on the bollard I place my hand on the rope and feel the anchor hook up! I must admit to looking at the plotter as well but once the anchor is in you know how much rope is out and the depth of water you know how much you can swing. Unfortunately there is no software that will stop that other clown anchoring too close.

Stick head out companion way half hour later to find 3 boats anchored around you happens every time no mater how crappy a spot i pick
