I made the mistake of following Ramona's link to yachthub from another recent post and found the next 'perfect yacht'.

problem is, it is in Cairns, I am in Geelong.

Road transort is not an option (9.8m cat) so i'd need to get a professional delivery done.

Anyone had any experience in arranging a delivery, or can recommend someone?

Also, are any of you guys based around Cairns and are familiar with the local Multi's.

This one is only 2 years old and ticks most of the boxes i'd need.
Damn Australia for being so big.

thanks for any suggestions, and good to see the sailing forums getting (slightly) busier.

hi Hangtime,
can't actually read name from images, and it's not on the vessel specification.
here's the link though so you can see it.

pretty basic inside, but would suit my needs (and budget if I sold car, house, dog and firstborn)

Looks ok for the price Crurty
Sailing down from Cairns can be hard work As its windward work for most of the way , Bashing into the constant southeasters with the small chance of Northerlies in October and November.
If you buy it Get it down asap as the SE winds pick up from now.
Cats dont bash to a seaway (wind chop) very well and several trips down from Cairns in my own cat has taught me to dread the southbound trip

update...
out of interest I checked with option of road freight.
Police escort is needed, that alone is $4-$5k per day, x 5 days...

Sell the house in Geelong and move to Cairns and leave the boat there, the weather is warmer up there, Geelong can be VERY cold in winter.

thought did cross my mind.

It can get a bit cold, but we don't get quite as many:

-crocs
-cane toads
-stingers
-backpackers
-floods
or cyclones.

I do miss seeing all the wicked campers though.

thanks for the responses guys.

to update for those interested, i've found a person today able to do the delivery, and price is reasonable. The fact that the boat is incomplete is not an issue.
Offer being placed tonight as soon as I get off seabreeze.

DKT: Width of the boat is 6m, 5 or under and no police escort needed.
I thought of maybe seeing if it could be transported tilted, like F1 boats are, to get in under 5m barrier. Still a long way to go, and I'd hate to do that to a boat really.

Interesting where delivery prices are quoted per nautical mile, sounds cheap until you realise how many you need (1780 odd in case you wondered.) One price was $21k by road @ no police.....

Hangtime you were spot on re: need to get a move on. I think there's about another month or so window apparently.

stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel

I work for a heavy haulage company. To transport it without police under 5.5m. There is curfew times so cant travel 24h constantly. Needs 2 Pilots as well. We have a low loader with a 10m deck (3.5m deck width) but it would need a frame to sit in. Also crane hire is needed at each end which also adds into the cost.

saltiest when was the latest time in the summer you left?

I'm convinced a sea delivery is the way to go.

With 3 crew, they plan to sail virtually without stops, unless there's breakages or pretty bad weather of course.

I forgot to ask how long delivery would take, around 3-4 weeks i'm guessing?

Offer has been made, now waiting...

Im a delivery skipper and surveyor your to late this season, if.. you have found someone who says no, and says 3 to 4 weeks I'd be asking alot of questions.

Hi, tilting the boat in a cradle on a truck might cause some issues being under power lines etc. How good is your trig? Anyway, can you somehow fit into a sea container?

Good luck if sailing her down, might make it on the nose, hope that you are insured. If boat is unfinished now you'll probably spend twice as much and three times as long getting her ready for sea (trials).

Apart from moving to Cairns for a holiday to fit out and waiting for next season suggest you could now fly to Cairns and chop the boat in half with a grinder fitted with a diamond blade, of course you'll need to knock up some retaining frames first.

You won't need a crane, only a truck with a hi-ab and seperate trailer for other half of boat [and nil police escort], and, certainly a good reglue with lotsa 2 pak epoxy and stringers later. Moved a 30' cat with a hiab before and it wasn't to dear locally, not sure about long distance 'though.

Incidentally a local Perth cat, Sally Malay, 35' Kurt Hughes, got built then was chopped in half and reglued down at peppy grove where she was launched - due to transport width problems. Years later she still floats at Hillarys Marina, have earlier been aboard her with Ian Walker when she's cracked 20 knots.

In the final analysis I'd maybe just sell up and move to NQ where you can find heaps of other cheaper multis too and the best place to sail them, cheers.

there's been no movement from the broker, and my offer has been increased.

At this stage, I'm resigned that whilst I've of got the delivering pretty much sorted, we are just about to miss the season, and effectively, it just wasn't meant to be.

For someone more local, who doesn't have the transport costs involved, I think it would have been a good buy.

It's a buyers market at the moment, and I think it is just going to get better unfortunatly due to some of the pain overseas, particularly US market. eg 30% off recently announced from major cat manufacturer.

I'll keep looking.

Thanks for everyone's comments.
