Hi I know Bukh Australia are meant to sell parts I have emailed them no less than 6 times over the last year but never even received a reply.
They cant be the ones to supply parts can they? im after 610J0050 oil filter cost from UK $40au tried Ryco part matcher nothing, Google, even yahoo not a single result.
I cant be the only one in Melbourne to need parts anyone know where I can get original or copy Im also due to change my Impeller thats the same as

Let's start with the easy one.

I'm guessing the Jabsco and Johnson part #'s were the impeller?? If so call a marine shop, Taylor Marine stock a fair range of Johnson.

As for the filter, try equivelants which are discussed here
forums.ybw.com/index.php?threads/bukh-filters.41334/
get them from the UK
www.promarineuk.com/serviceparts_bukhparts.htm
Glasgow engineering here in Tassie are pretty good on most diesels
www.glasgowengineering.com.au/
Or contact someone like these guys
www.filtrec.com.au/

Hope all that helps!!

Forget about the Buhk and get a marinised Kubota from Diecon in Brisbane.

Buhk ends with a K and Kubota starts with a K.

Is there a Kryptic message in that??

First yacht my then girlfriend, now wife of 20+ years sailed on was a Naut 33 charter yacht called Cryptic. We had so much fun on that trip that we renamed the yacht "The Crippled Tick".

Simple.

You cannot get parts and when you can find bits, it costs you more than the engines worth.

Thanks for the cross-references, Sctpc. What model Bukh are these valid for - dv10, dv24, dv36, other?

I'm with you on Bukh engines - very solid. When I had mine overhauled, the specialist engine reconditioning shop owner told me that he'd never seen as robustly built a diesel engine, and if he owned one he would never ever let go of it. So now I'm sticking with mine whatever happens.
Mine has a heavy 20kg flywheel and ticks over slowly; so once it spins it does not want to stop easily.
Bukh is made in Denmark and it's main market seems to be commercial, enclosed lifeboats rather than recreational yachts. You would imagine fairly rigorous QC criteria for engines going into lifeboats costing a few hundred thousand dollars a piece.

European parts (like Volvo Penta and Bukh) will always cost more. I know, my thermostat was over $100. But I use a compatible Ryco filter for oil and Fleetguard for fuel. Impellers fit the Johnson pumps used. If you read the Johnson pump model number off the casing or owner's manual, most local pump specialists can supply the impeller.

The Bukh distributor in Australia seem to sell all the original parts for an engine re-build (Bukh Australia has a shop in Taren Point, Sydney, and they have usually answered their phones when I have called; (02) 9525-0011).

Bukh would be my first pick If I had a choice. My yacht has a "new" Volvo md7a which is also a marine engine from the ground up, flywheel at the front.

Kubota's are nice but no smoother or quieter in my opinion. They rarely need parts and after 16,000 hours the generator plant in my fishing vessel was still going strong when I sold it. The only problem I had was fresh water cooling pumps and I had trouble finding a supplier who carried the correct one.

There was a time when Volvo and Bukh were hard to find filters for but the internet has solved these little niggles.

DV10, DV20. AND its the refill not screw on. YES THE OIL filter is a Ryco z418 as the z88a is now superseded.

The Johnson Impeller 09-808B I managed to get 3 delivered to melbourne less than $10 each.

I have sent emails all year to Bukh AU and had no replies Its taken a few hours to get all the correct parts but now im set for years to come at low cost not Bukh prices. I also look on ebay for Bukh Parts and have picked up lots of parts like starter, Alternator ect

I have never used a Buhk but I believe the exposed flywheel models (all of them??) would have to be in the same ball park as the similar Yanmars. Simple, robust and reliable.

My only bias is towards engines originating from that area of the globe that seem to be difficult to get parts for and the generally high price of parts. Eg the "Green Death" variety.

I believe a direct hand cranking exposed flywheel diesel engine with decompressors is one of man's smarter inventions.

I have witnessed two men (one on crank, one on decompressors) hand start a thumping great 6 cylinder Gardener diesel engine. Very impressive.

If you have had your Bukh for 20 years and it starts first time every time, I would have nothing but praise for it too.

Some models of Yanmars are not particularly east to get parts for either I have been told. The interwebby makes finding out a lot easier. Cheers

Never hand started my old Gardner but the previous owner had and when I was buying the boat in 1988, he demonstrated how it ran on one cylinder.

The old marine Volvos are ok for parts if you buy overseas, www.keypart.com. I occasionally hear of people struggling to get parts for the later model multi cylinder ones designed by Perkins and built in Japan.

Take the impeller into any pump shop. The part number is on the hub side or base of the impeller. If they have not got any in stock its an overnight order job usually. There is a knurled screw kit available advertised in the Afloat magazine or any fastening shop will have ss threaded screws to suit.

part no 610G0070 depending on year converts to Johnson 09-1026b the only difference I can see is the 12.7mm shaft

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Impeller-09-1026-Yanmar-Volvo-Bukh-Perkins-Impellor-/370232959300?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_BoatEquipment_Accessories_SM&hash=item56339aa144

I think it correct but dont shoot me if its not as it could also be the johnson 09-806b unlikely as its only 40mm but 19mm wide

if you PM me I have a Bukh dv10 and DV20 part pdf I can email you if you like.

Hi,

I just went around to Bukh in Taren Point, Sydney (near Cronulla) today and they have various parts there, but don't know if they'll have what you are after - but worth a try. Here are their contact details:

Unit 3/ 38 Alexander Ave, Taren Point, NSW 2229
(02) 9525 0011

Don't give up trying to contact them - sometimes the business is closed when all the staff are out delivering parts, etc.

Good luck,
The Dutchie

I once years ago in Cairns worked on a Bukh 20hp for a yachtie
The engine block had split in half ! A clean break when he was in the Solomon islands
He sailed the yacht to Cairns where we had a new block shipped up from Sydney and transferred all the parts The engine was test run for an hour It ran sweetly and he was off back to Sydney with his wife and young family
Very strange and couldnt find a reason for it except that maybe it was because it was solid mounted and not on flexible mounts

where did it split between the cylinders?

Im having fun my dv10 has cracked its exhaust elbow / mixer bukh dv 10 / 20 and im thinking about getting a stainless one made. has anyone ever done that?
I couldn't get out the 4 screws so I wd40 them it will be a week or more before I can get to the boat again, hope I dont have to drill them out, I have a max gap off 30cm space at the back.

It was more a horizontal split from memory---long time ago-- boat was named Manana

Stainless can be a tricky matierial where there is heat, salt, sulphuric exhaust etc
If it doesnt have internal jackets and is made from a good grade it may be better

I have made thick mild steel ones that lasted a long time 20+years
