Hi. Anyone used sticky-backed dacron ('insignia cloth') for UV strips? Apparently lighter weight (so sails better in light air), requires replacing sooner, and does not require sewing.

I have this product in white on my furling headsail. Bull design, made by China Sails.
The only time I would even remotely consider not sewing the UV strip is if it was going onto a brand new sail and it was given a good cooking in the sun before it's first tack. Any salt reside or such and the adhesion will be reduced. Mack sure it's a UV stickyback and standard sail number insignia will not last in our sun. There is also a shrinkage issue with stickyback.
Thanks Ramona, the material we used was similar in appearance, but not the same. It was a UV proofed Dacron which was sewn on. It was glued in place and then sewn, using standard sticky back would be a bit of a disaster. There are some sticky backs that are uv proofed for this role. We use them on quick fix jobs and if the sail has little life in them. The best options are Weathermax, Sunbrella, or the uv finished Dacron. Great if they can be sewn on in Tenara thread as this saves re stitching down the track.
