I just purchased a Space Sailer 18 and with it came separately this huge compass that was pulled out of a trawler. It is a Sun Light Magnetic Compass Size P-130SL made by Daiko Keiki Seisakusho Co, Ltd. On top, centered inside of the degree markings is an electical gizmo called Magnetic Compass Sensor with a single lead coming out of it. What is it and how do you hook it up? Does it adjust the compass?
You're right, it's big, bloody big in fact at 4.5 kg it's overkill on your tiny boat. Are you sure that the lead isn't just for the 24 volt DC light?
Information is very scarce on the net for this brand even though they are still very much in business. you could try an email to the company and hope that someone understands English and will respond to your request.
For what it's worth here's the company site www.783.to/

Good luck
Boats in survey require a compass with a card at least 100mm across. There are not really many choices out there now, this compass would be worth a few bucks. I would suggest selling it on and buying a compass more suitable.
The single wire would be power the light. Compasses like these are adjusted by a licensed compass adjuster every 5 years and a deviation card provided.
There are two wires coming out-one is for a light and the other attached to the electric gizzmo on top. There are no adjustments I can see outside so it probably is adjusted inside by some certified person. By the time I pay his airfare and time I'll have paid double for the boat. Saw a similar one on ebay going for $600 or $700. What is a good one to get?
