Hi All,

I'm new here and need some advice on Berthing a 39' Sail Catermaran in Victoria.
This boat is currently in Newport in QLD and we are wanting to being it down to VIC so we can get some use out of it.
Since my father passed it has just been sitting idle and slowly perishing as we dont have the time to get up there and use it or maintain it.

My Question is is there anywhere from Melbourne down the east side of the bay that we can berth it cheaply?
Would berthing in Western Port be any cheaper?

Thanks in advance.

It's hard to get a berth in Port Phillip Bay, let alone a swing mooring. I often was told of 2-3 year waiting lists. I got lucky with a club swing mooring at Hobsons Bay. That's after you become a senior member. Moneywise, not so cheap.

I don't know about western port, I'm guessing it may be easier to obtain one and cheaper. I didn't do any research for there. Then you have to start looking at travel costs and convenience factor.

Let us know how you go.

Hi SirJman,

Ok so no luck as yet with StKilda, Brighton, Sandringham or Patterson Lakes as you stated you need to be a Senior member of the club and Patterson Lakes was nice and affordable but I cant fit under the bridge. :(
Im going to check out Yaringa Marina on the weekend who are based in Western Port.

Will see how I go.

No big loss not being a member at StKilda, Brighton or Sandringham. Let's just say they are not my breed of class.

Best of luck with Western Port ;)

Hi, Yaringa & Hastings, used to have boat there, don't bother to go there, check the pricing on their web site. If any good to you.
Getting in and out the pen in Yaringa is trouble, but more family friendly. If you wont something reasonable, you have to go as far as Portland, perhaps Eden,
Check Lakes area too, there are cheaper spots than Mel. Good luck.

Yep took me 4 years to get a mooring at hobo through Parks, well worth the wait gone from over 3k to 700 per year.

On subject I would go to yaringa.com.au/ not cheep but the cheepest docking I found, but if you would not mind a mooring www.ebay.com.au/itm/Boat-Mooring-Anchoring-/111168754289?pt=AU_Boating_Water_Sports_Equipment&hash=item19e22c9271&_uhb=1 Depending on your size or go on a wait list in port

Kirock, have you considered Geelong?

Royal Geelong Yacht Club still operate swing moorings, and an increasing fleet of multi's also.

Martha cove has a few big cats in it. Otherwise swing moorings at blairgowrie either side of the marina.

You need to get that cat down to Melbourne and start enjoying it, more often. That'll be an adventure in itself :) one that I'm sure your dad will be proud of.
I have sailed a 45' cat and its not something I'd want to take out just for a day. Luckily that's not a problem with a cat that size. Traveling an extra hour or so at the start and end of your trip to get a much cheaper mooring is well worth it. Just my opinion but the bigger the cat the longer the holiday.

Thanks again all, this is not a easy task :( .
I have looked up the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and prices are good, Im just awaiting a email response if they will allow it to be Berthed there.

I also inquired about the Ebay link from above, he has dropped the price to $2500 so I have also asked the question to him also.

Will keep you updated.

Cheers.

if Geelong doesn't pan out , Victorian multihull Association have a website and a Facebook page. most members are connected to Westernport bay and I'd be amazed if they wouldn't know of a mooring available near Hastings. [:)
