The floor of my boat is made from cork with black rubbery stuff (like black silicon) to look like a beech deck, the black stuff is upposed to be the caulking.

The problem I have is I think I may of spilt petrol or something on it because 2 spots have now turned gooey. Does anyone know how I can get it to ?set? again like adding a hardener to it?

If indeed it was petrol that caused it to go gooey then eventually the evaporation of the petrol may allow it to re-harden, somehow I suspect though that will not be case as the molecular integrity of the material has been altered.
