Bundaberg Sailing Club's Midnight Run. Only two boats managed to finish the race after the fleet ran into ever increasing SE winds. Mike Shelley on his big Cat 'Time Bandit' looked a chance to set a new race record but with the SE wind and seas building he decided the record would have to wait instead easing sheets and settling for line and handicap honours. In 2nd place also on a Cat was Shane Woods and his crew on Shane's Seawind 24 'Drippin Wet' (very appropriately named given the conditions). It was a super effort by both skippers and their crew and I think Mike would agree that the performance of Shane and his crew on a Seawind 24, in those conditions, over that distance deserves an extra pat on the back. To the crews who erred on the side of caution and comfort there is always next time.

Hi azudo,
I have been talking with Miles who crews for Mike on Time Bandit. Getting it from Miles there is no better boat in the world. He is having fun anyway.

If I get a lot of work done between now and then I should be able to join you in next year's Midnight Run with an S&S 34. Cheers Peter.

Hi garyk, I did buy one that appeared really cheap at the time but it's cost is going up all the time. ie BOAT, sic, Bring Out Another Thousand.[}:)]

It could be the one you are referring too. I now see it more as a rescue than a purchase.

It has spent about the last two years fore and aft anchored just downstream of the Port Authority Slip, a little gem just waiting for someone to give her a good polish and a whole lot of love.

She was known locally as "Astrid" but her real name is "Cicely June".

Yeah I think we met on the day you brought the boat, I was chatting to Terry at the marina. I have a Compass 28 "Huahine"

Looks like you have a bit of work to do but It will be worth it when it all finished.

How long do you reckon you will be out of the water for?

How long is a piece of string

If everything ran smooth as silk a relaunch midyear 2010 is achievable, but.........

Thanks garyk. If you drive to Burnett Heads Marina she is the first boat you see when you pass the VMR Base. If you see me there working on her, drop in and say hello. Cheers Cisco.
