I am looking at buying a second hand boat shortly. Probably a Hobie cat or something similar on a road trailer.

I was wondering what paperwork needs to be done? I am pretty sure the trailer needs to be transferred as this is a registered road vehicle, but what about the boat? Do small sailing boats need to be registered and is there any paperwork to prove you own the boat?

best check the Dept of Transport website. Larger vessels certainly need to be registered and the paperwork will have the owner listed, in the same fashion as you road trailer / car is registered. Smaller vessels such as sailing dinghies do not need registration but there will be some distinction between what vessels do and do not need rego. The DOT will be the place to get the correct info.
