Hi All
I was wondering what is a good option for flooring material and where to get it? Have read some info on the Yank sites but some of it is hard to find in Oz. currently have a steel hull with just plain old plywood floor and need to replace
Thanks for any advice you can offer...
Could you replace ply with play again, but overlay it with a laminate or vinyl? Vinyl has come a loooong way in recent years.
I certainly could, the only thing I worried about the vinyl was at the edges at access areas like the bilge.
It would certainly be the cheapest way to go.
My boat has the industrial vinyl with the raised circles that you see around machinery spaces. 30 years old and still looks new.

That's beautiful, but not necessarily practical.
I'm not a huge fan of varnished timber floors, especially if there are wide spaces across the boat. Sailed on a Sydney 40 with beautiful timber floors but after taking an off watch in the windward bunk, the only way to get up was to slide the the leeward side, about 6ft away!!!
Something like this?http://www.remlandcarpets.co.uk/vinyl-flooring/ultragrip-pro-s215.html
There is a laminate available in Teak/Holly from an outlet in QLD.You then simply glue over a plywood base with the usual contact adhesive.
I did a house on the coast where this was used to good effect on an upstairs suspended platform.
Unfortunately it is covered over in one pic, but you get the idea in the other picture from my recent motor boat build.
Seawind Catamarans use the same product on their floor areas and is very hard wearing.
Good luck-CR.

Now your cooking CR, that looks the go... do you know the name of the outlet in Qld, would be pretty keen to chase that up.
I tried to do a search for you but could not come up with the suppliers name/location.
This product looks very much like the real thing, unlike some of the other vinyl and composite floors on the market.
Obviously you can get the timber veneered plywood from say Caporns, but then there is the ongoing upkeep and so on.
The only thing I can suggest for you is to contact Seawind direct and they may give you a lead.
I will speak with some yachty contacts here in the meantime and see if they can remember.
Can post you a small offcut if need be.
