Does anyone know what the requirements are to have a yacht setup to carry passengers on a day sail?
I understand you need an AMSA survey with appropriate gear and a qualified skipper but are there any specific requirements for the yacht design / build etc?
I looked at this 10 years ago in Sydney. As my yacht wasn't built to survey it would require two 12" dia holes to be drilled in the hull to determine hull structure. I stopped there.
I think that is true only for fibreglass boats. Wooden and steel/aluminium boats don't require holes (I stopped my inquiries at that point too)..
Any commercial boat should be built "under" survey.
To get a survey on an existing boat is very very hard.![]()
Depending on where you want to operate and the size of the boat will dictate the operators level of licence.

It requires a fat bank account and a strong desire to become stone motherless broke.

Yeah I hear this a lot in my industry too. The rub is, is that there are also a lot of people making millions if not hundreds of millions doing it. So someone is doing it right. Just need to find the right market (and maybe enough cash to see it to fruition).
