I don't post very often but would like some opinions on Bidata setup for my TS, depth and speed only.
Complete set up delivered from around $600 aus from Clipper in England.
I already have a through hull from an old system that was stolen [prior to my purchase of the boat] and this unit seems priced well and with a single transducer it means I don't have to drill any more holes in the hull.
So I guess I'm asking what do you all have and what's your suggestion

I brought a Nasa marine battery monitor unit a few years from eBay a brand new product.....I was very happy with the unit and seemed high quality. I believe it should be the same for the depth and speed as well.

I use a fishfinder for depth (Garmin) They are generally cheaper and I can glance at it and see the bottom profile trend as well as the depth in large digits. Great for determining bottom type for anchoring too.
I have a separate speed log (Cruzpro).
If your hull is solid glass you may be able to install the depth transducer without drilling a hole. Test the transducer by placing it in a puddle of water where you would like to site it. If it works you can resin it in place ensuring there is no air under the transducer face.
I turn my depth off to save power when offshore to save battery power.
Sorry I can't offer an opinion on a depth speed combined instrument other than you may not be able to turn the depth off when not required.

I used clipper when I was sailing in the UK...good solid product, speed like most other brands also, gets clogged up with crap so every now and then you need to pull out and clean...but not a big job and do it whilst on the water...
Other option is raymarine st40...i think depth comes at around $250 from whitworths...speed is similar so bith cheaper..display smaller than clipper
Then you got tactic...wireless type devices fed by solar...also used them on an s&s 34 once..expensive but good solid product too...

I agree, the sender or transponder thingy up the mast is the same sort as some of the new style weather stations. One wonders if they perform when heeled over? I like the logging functions on the instrument though.
I was thinking of getting one until I pulled the Navman head unit apart and replaced the ribbon cable joining the board and display. Now as good as new again.
I have a speed SLT110 head unit that I bought online when the Navman failed. It is connected to my Navman through hull sender unit, even the temperature part worked.
I also have a VAH35 & PY30. So I can vouch for the quality of the product.
